| ![]() Are you watching the Ky Derby? This is the kind of story we love to read and tell. The horse, AfleetAlex, is a minor miracle on her/his? own BUT they have decided to also align themselves with a wonderful little girl, Alex, who died of cancer. She had set up lemonade stands and wanted to raise 1 million dollars for cancer research-she raised 1.5 before her death in August 2004. Afleet Alex is a novice and making it to the Derby is such an honor. The owner is also suffering with cancer and is under treatment. Alex's horse mom could not take care of him and the human family bottle fed him. There are so many miracles or near-miracles associated with this horse. If he does not make it out of the gate, he still is a wonder. There are lemonade stands all over the grounds to continue raising money for Alex's cancer research fund. I do not ever gamble but I bet there is somebody up there watching over this derby today. Will it mean more if he wins? Of course. But, losing does not lessen the love and compassion that is so closely related to this animal and his effect on the efforts to stamp out childhood cancer. YOU GO, BOY!! RUN YOUR TAIL OFF FOR ALEX! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ![]() I heard that story on the news ...there is also a man her fondation has helped too who was susposed to live only 6 months and it's now going on 2 years thanks to this brave little girl and her lemonade stand - These stories really make me take a step back and appreciate the things I have in my life - small as they are ...it's really touching. |
