Isn't this Yorkie abuse???? My neighbor's little female Yorkie is being chained to a post outside all day or running loose around in the neighborhood while her owner is living cozily in a big two story home. This might not be any of my business and I usually keep my nose to myself but in my mind's eye I see this as abuse of the worst kind and I can't stand seeing it! It is my understanding that Yorkies are indoor dogs not outside dogs. This poor little thing has been chained up all year and has now had two litters of puppies with the fathers being "travelling strangers of the night." How the poor little thing survives is beyond me! She is chained up with her puppies roaming around close by. She barks and carrys on something awful occassionaly getting loose to roam the streets. She lost one of her puppies from her last litter in this way..it followed her off and never came home! There is no dog catcher in the town where I live so no hope of something being done due to that. No one else seems to mind but me...guess they figure it isn't their dog so why be concerned but while it isn't my dog I sure hate seeing this abuse. It is getting below freezing at night here now but guess b/c they have placed a doghouse in the yard they think that is all they need to do. She has two new puppies just a couple weeks old and her coat is cut short b/c she runs loose and gets mats in her coat. I feel soooo sorry for the poor little thing and feel guilty for not helping her out but don't really know what to do...just hard to turn my head to it! Just had to vent my frustration somewhere...thanks for lending me your ear! |
when she gets loose again take her to a local shelter or rescue |
I wouldn't take her to a shelter because they couls easliy claim her. I hate dishonesty but this girl needs a intervention, I say next time she gets loose keep her and find her a good home. They do not deserve any respect if you ask me! So the 2 week old puppies are out in the freezing cold also? |

1 Attachment(s) I would keep my eyes open like the last person said and the next time you see her lose I would catch her and then call the humane seciaty there has got to be one at lest in 100 miles.Or I might would see if she would sell her. If she is chained out side and has had stray litters the lady couldnt care anything about her and might sell her cheap. |
Sounds like abuse to me.....oh that poor dog! :( My neighbor has a yorkie and a maltese and the maltese yaps all day....b/c she puts HUGE shock collars on their necks and lets them in her miniscule backyard area behind her townhome and only uses invisible fences (hence the collars)....it's disturbing. |
If she gets out again get her and call a rescue. I wish I would have did that. I have some neighbors down the street from me that had a yorkie and would let it run loose and we have a busy street near by. I kept debating if I should grab him or not and then all of a sudden I didnt see him anymore. I dont know what happened too him. |
You don't have any kind of animal control where you are? I know the law says as long as they have shelter and food there is nothing they can do...but, I do agree with you...I too, would consider this abuse. My daughter had an issue similar to this but it was a male..they didn't take good care of him...was left tied out with the awful heat that we had this past summer and NO WATER!! THAT is abuse!! they kept asking my daughter if she wanted the dog...at this time she can't have a dog because her and her boyfriend don't own a home yet...the neighbor could have cared less about this poor little guy...well, they finally placed him in a forever loving home. I would try to see if I could find someone to talk to (regarding animal cruelty...like your vet maybe) and let them know what's been going on...if there are puppies being born and left outside this isn't a good thing...You know what! on second thought I would take the dog AND puppies...I am sure you could re-home her and her puppies to a loving caring family...If you took the dog/puppies do you think they would know? maybe you could foster them until the puppies are old enough to find homes and then re-home them then....OMG!!! I just can't believe these people |

BEFORE IT GETS COLD?????????? It's been getting cold regularly here. It was 28 degrees this morning. That poor little yorkie!:( The only suggestion I have is to contact Kathy Watt at watt@ucom.net She is with a yorkie rescue and see if she has any suggestions. She may be able to coordinate something with some other people in Kansas. I would just come over and rescue the poor little thing, but I'm presently taking care of my mom who is dying of cancer and I can't do it right now. Otherwise, I'd be there pronto.:( Some people are so very cruel. |
OMG that is terrible:cry: That poor baby and HER babies:( Please let us know what happens. |
Yes please do something asap, these poor babies, it is cold out there. They probably wouldn't even notice their gone... |
Sound like abuse to me . |
Blows my mind what some people do to dogs. To me, chaining a dog is abuse. Ask your vet what can be done. They might have some suggestions. |
Friggin pop knot your neighbor!!! Then tonight or Monday when they are gone, go down and get her off the chain and bring her in. She can use pp pads so the neighbors don't see. Maybe they'll just think she ran away again. Find her a good home far far away from them and they'll never be none the wiser, the big buttheads. |
People make me so sick ...why even have a dog if you're going to mistreat it - that poor little thing .she must be freezing and terribly lonely :( :( :( |
Sounds like abuse to me! I would try talking to them and see if they are willing to give her up. Maybe they would even give her to you and not want any money, who knows! Poor thing and her babies! I have 3 dogs. All of them are inside dogs and 2 of mine are BIG LOL I would never let them stay outside in this cold...Some ppl are just cruel! |
Taking someone elses dog is a felony (stealing) - it's something that you could go to jail for or be fined for doing. It's great to say - "I really don't care - I'd take the chance......" But, at least, be prepared for any consequences this might cost you. I have no clue why some people treat their dogs the way they do. And, unfortunately, there are just as many people who treat their children badly. And - on both counts - it often seems that there is nothing neighbors can do. I can't imagine that there aren't any facilities or organizations in your area that look after the welfare of animals. I would be doing some homework and then would be taking a lot of pictures and writing a lot of letters - over and over again I needed to ..... **** I do agree that these dogs shouldn't be out braving the weather year round - plus being unspayed and allowed to get pregnant over and over again. You're correct - this is abuse. Yes - it is abuse - and there really should be someone you can contact and report this to. Call the mayor's office - get the yellow pages out - check with your vet - find out where you can get help. Good luck! Carol Jean |
CHAINED???   OUTSIDE???   I would not wait for her to get loose, I'd go and get her when they aren't home. it doesn't sound to me like they'd even care. That dog would be gone if I were the neighbor. CHAINED??? who chains a yorkie.???   . |
That poor baby needs a good home with people who will love her and actually be aware that she even exists. I say snatch her up the next time she is roaming around and do whatever you wish. I know you will do what is best for her, which is much more than we can say for her parents. Thank God for people like you who care. |
Is it stealing a dog if the dog is left to roam the earth alone. I am sure she doesn't have any tags identifying her. As long as she is not taken from the owners property I don't see how it can be stealing. Plus if you take it to a rescue group then she is obviously not doing it for her own gain, she is picking up a stray dog and taking it to the appropriate place. |
Thanks for the suggestions! I do have to be very careful as the Mayor of the town is the guy's relative believe it or not! Our homes are right close to one another so I do think they would know that I took the dog..but I am going to try to convince the guy it is wrong to have the dog outside like this and see if he wants to find her a good home. As far as organizations to help here I have contacted the humane society in the next town over once before about a situation and was told they cannot help as we live in a different county. I then called the police dept. here and they said the only way they could help was if the animal was dangerous and they would shoot it! I know it is hard to believe but there really isn't any thing the law will do about it so I think the best solution is like someone here mentioned ....offer to find the dog and puppies good homes. |
aww that is so sad.. a yorkie chained, thats unbelievable and outside in the cold...If she or the puppies come in your yard, I would take them, and try to find them a good home. but thats just me, you have to do what you think is the best way to handle it. good luck |

Some people are just plain dumb! Why would you do that to a tiny little dog?  What part of Kansas are you in? I'll come swipe her if your close! :p No...but seriously...I hope you can convince your neighbor to let her go to a good home. |
these a holes do not deserve to have a yorkie or any dog for that matter, maybe somebody should tie them up outside in the cold and lonely world. |
My neighbor kept his Yorkie attached to a tree in his back yard . One day , he woke up and the little one was not there . He placed flyers and never found his little boy . I only hope the little one have a better life . |

try this... Why don't you offer to buy her? Maybe if you made them an offer they would sell her since they don't seem to give a hoot. I know this sounds stupid but I would be willing to donate to this cause. If she is an older dog then you chances may be better. After you secure her and you can not keep her surrrender her to rescue. She will find a very good forever home. Please keep us posted. |
