| Most of your female dogs stay in heat for about 21 days. They usually bleed the first 7, stand for breeding during the middle 7 but could possibly still get pregnant the last 7. Just like people, different dogs can have different cycles. There are no 2 just alike. Teri

It's 3 weeks. 1 going in, 1 in, and 1 going out. This is what I have always heard and it seems to hold pretty true, with my experiences. They are not ready to mate until after they stop bleeding which is week 2.
