| BAD cough! Help! Late yesterday my 4 mo old Yorkie started coughing. It sounds almost like there's something in his throat. This morning he sounds like he has croup. His cough is a barking sound (NPI). He doesn't act ill otherwise. He was just at the vet on Friday for vaccinations. Any ideas? |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I would call your vet - it could be just a cough or it may be something your baby picked up there getting his shots - but it's always best to check it out - Problem with coughs is once you get to the vet - they usually won't do it ! I took Chanel in for a cough and she was running around trying to kiss everyone in the office and acted totally healthy ! I felt silly but the vet understood - I never knew what caused her to be coughing If you REALLY are wanting your vet to hear the sound - tape record the cough and take it with you ....GOOD LUCK with your little boy - hope he feels better |

| GREAT idea on taping his cough! He doesn't do it when he and my other yorkie are wrestling even, but he woke me earlier and it's a scary sound. IF he caught something at the vet, I'll be very angry. I didn't even let his feet touch the ground, only the table that I ASSUMED had been sanitized in between patients! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Good Luck !! I only thought of that idea AFTER Chanel wouldn't cough for the vet and as SOON as we got home - BOOM - she was coughing again...Just like children aren't they ? ... I hope your baby feels better ! |

| Awww, I hope your baby feels better soon. That is a GREAT suggestion to get the cough on tape. Both my dogs and children would rather die than show a doctor/vet the symptom I'm talking about!

| I suggest you take him back to the vet. He could of caught a cold or has allergies or something caught in his throat. Once my dog caught kennel cough at the vet office and he was vaccinated for it. Best to have your vet check him out. Better safe than sorry. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I agree - Groomers are also a place our yorkies can catch something - I had my cocker Tessa groomed at a Petsmart once and she caught a bad case of Kennel cough - the best groomer to use is one that requires your records of vaccination. |

| Yes, it could be kennel cough. Chai had a cough for three weeks and I took her to two different vets because at the first vet appointment she wouldn't cough so I went home and videotaped to my cell phone. When I took her to the second vet and had the video of course she coughed when she was examined. She is now on an antibiotic and a cough medication and it is almost gone!! Keep us updated! |
