| Saw a 5 oz puppy for sale today Wow, can't stop thinking about it... On the way to work I stopped at a pet's store with Pepper to get him a pig ear and keep him occupied there (oh my he's so hyper). They have puppies for sale too and one of the ladies working there told me they just got a pup weighing in 5 ounces. They brought the pup wrapped up in a blanket, if it stretched, it still wouldn't take up the whole palm... I felt so bad about that poor thing, it was missing hair on the paws and just didn't look healthy at all. They said it was 5 weeks. It really was so small it didn't even look right - just a little bigger than a hamster. Why do they breed tinies it's so upsetting.

| That's sad Even if people DO choose to breed tiny dogs, they should realize that they need more care and need to be looked after with their mom a lot longer than a bigger pup...5 weeks is WAY too early for a hammy sized pup..I'd say they'd need at least 12-14 weeks until they even THINK about being sold. Petstores really are getting more and more ignorant of the kind of animals they sell, aren't they? My cousin went to buy a rabitt (she's 7), and found a really cute one. The lady at the store didn't even know how old it was when she asked! |

| I'm not defending anyone here but tinies can happen even when not breeding for them. When we went to look at Riley we saw his sister...they were about 16 weeks and she wasn't even a pound yet when Riley was 2.9. She was so tiny she stood in the palm of my hand and would truly fit in a shirt pocket. She was a total doll although I'm just about sure she was headed for trouble in the future, her soft spot hadn't closed all the way and her eyes were set a little bit apart. The breeder was keeping her, which was the responsible thing to do. I did see both parents and they were normal sized Yorkies. |

| 5 weeks? I don't know what's worse..the fact that the petstore was selling dogs, or the fact that whomever breed this dog let it go so early.

| It was a Yorkie, I think the sales lady said she was keeping her, I couldn't even imagine how you can ship such a small thing, that was pretty disturbing, I remember how lost Pepper seemed when first I brought him home, let alone something that tiny away from her mom . But she didn't look right, heatlhwise, just so out of there, you know... I'm not going back to that store...

| That upsets me sooo much. i actually went into the pet store yesterday just to look around, and the puppies live in horrible conditions there. they dont even have beds just the plastice things to sit on. and i went over to the yorkie cage and there was poop all over and the two little yorkies were in the corner looking so lost and sad. i wanted to buy them just tto get them out of there.

| Five weeks.... That makes me ill... at five weeks my five girls were just barely eating... they were still nursing! They were on gruel still, their teeth were not even anywhere close to being fully in!!! How could you send a pup out into the world in that condition and ask it to fend for its self??? That breeder should face animal cruelty charges if you ask me! Its not even a tiny case here.... If that puppy had stayed with its mother till it was of a reasonable age it might not be a "tiny". If its five weeks now and the pet store has it... how old was it really when they got it?? when it was pulled from its mother??? 4 weeks??? That will certainly stunt a pup's growth.. lack of proper nutrition and care.. I'm sure that she's not getting that in a pet store.... That pup may have the potential to have been a 5lb adult! But due to neglect will never realize that potential ... And will that bitch be bred right away?? My guess is YES! Its just sick!!! But hey... Thats how you mass produce cheap puppies for pet stores... And as long as people buy them... there will be a market for them and these breeders and mills will be in business... As sad as those babies are, buying them to get them out of those conditions only supports and perpetuates the problem... what really needs to be done is much harder... we need to report them to the local animal welfare agency departments... get them restricted from selling dogs... stop the sales of dogs in pet stores... The pups will be taken to shelters and adopted out... it takes more effort but the result saves more than just one or two pups... it can save hundreds... Ok... I'm done ranting.... ugh! I just hate to read stuff like this!
