| Help with heat question Hey guys can anyone help me, I have always had males and now I have a female and I was wondering how long does the heat cycle last? I was told by someone that it is a week coming in, a week in and a week going out. and that it is the week that they are actually in heat that you have to worry about them getting breed. is this true? Emma is 8 months now and my male is doing a lot of sniffing and I am keeping them apart and when they are together emma has a diaper on, If you can help I would really appreciate it Thanks

| Before the girls get inheated (?) they will be swollen (down there ), you will REALLY see it. I was shocked how big she got to be.. !! She can change her temparement, some get more snuggly and others get to be aggersive. Some urinate more. Then she will start bleeeding. That's also different from dog to dog. Some bleed ALOT and some have nothing. Get those pant's. Really nice. The cycle last from 3 - 4 weeks. Different from dog to dog. From the 10 - 14 day in the beginning of the cycle she start to "stand" (don't know if you call it that, but we do), it means thats in 2 - 3 days she's ready to get a boyfriend YOU GOT TO BE CAREFUL THESE DAYS!!! Even though the day's she not "standing" you have to be careful because she might wanna do it anyway. In the end it's not any blood but be aware..male's can still be interested in her. I don't know if you understand my explanation, little difficult when it's not my language |

| A heat cycle for female dogs last 21 days, thats 3 weeks. The first week the are coming in heat, the second week is when you got to be careful, this is when they are ready to be bred, the third week they are coming out of heat. Usually the dog is ready to be bred by 9 days after the first start bleeding. So to answer your question, the second week is when they will let the male breed with them. Watch them real carefully and a diaper will NOT prevent her from getting pregnant. You need to completely seperate them and put them in to separate rooms. This is best anyways since the first week and third week, your female is likely to hurt your male as she will snap or bite him for trying to breed with her.
