You've made the right choice. Personally, I would avoid this breeder...just too many red flags. Even if you were to get a pup from the same parents as the pup you have now, there's no guaranteeing that they'd even have similar personalities anyway. You are wise to avoid purchasing from her again. |
I know it was a hard decision to make, but I know you did the right thing. It would be a very hard decision for me to have to make. I, like you, wanted my second yorkie to come from the exact same parents as my first yorkie. If this had happened to me, it would have been a hard decision to make to have to bypass your original breeder. But it will definately be worth it in the end. I also think that she is trying to get rid of the puppies before they start showing signs of a mix breed. How sad. :( |
Update I finally got a call back from AKC today, and they won't do ANYTHING!!! They said unless I had purchased a puppy, and could send them the papers and photos of the dog, and several reasons why I thought the dog wasn't purebread, that there wasn't any action they could take. I explained the conversation between myself and the breeder, and that I knew the female had tied with another dog that was not purebred. I told the AKC rep that I knew that there was a good chance the puppies weren't purebred, and the reasons I thought this (her selling them so young, raising the price, calling them "Christmas" puppies, etc.), but she maintained that AKC couldn't do anything based on my allegations, that they needed proof. So basically, as long as the buyers don't know the story of how the female was bred, and don't notice that their puppies aren't pure yorkie, the breeder gets off scott free! I even asked this question when I was on the phone with AKC, and she said, "yes m'am"!!! Ugh. I was under the understanding that any multi-sired or possible multi-sired litters MUST be DNA'ed before registering the puppies. This makes me leary of ANY breeder-I bet this kind of thing happens more often than you'd think! |

[QUOTE=Suzy] "They said unless I had purchased a puppy, and could send them the papers and photos of the dog, and several reasons why I thought the dog wasn't purebread, that there wasn't any action they could take." It sounds like if you truly want to get her, you have to buy one of her pups and make the formal complaint. Teri:animal-pa |
She sounds like a careless breeder ( to say the least), but accidents can happen. BUT when they do you DO NOT sell them with AKC papers or anyother registration papers PERIOD! Unless you DNA the sire , dam and ALL the puppies. I think it's $40 each dog with AKC. Her careless mistake, thats the price she needs to pay if she is honest! If she doesn't DNA she need to be honest and say that it's possible they are mixed and sell them without papers and for a lower price. AKC is not fool proof thats for sure. You are required to DNA your studs after a certain amount of litters, however they do not check the DNA results right away and compare the results against the said sires DNA. It's random DNA checks that find the problems. Why even issue a DNA cert. for a dog if they don't check right away to see if it is correct? You would think AKC would be all over that info. you gave them but she will get away with it unless she gets a kennel check and they do DNA onthat litter at her house, or if that litter comes up for a random check at the AKC office. Anyway, I'm glad you are not going to support a breeder that does breeding/business like that. |

I'm glad you guys decided not to get another one from this breeder! |
Update I looked in a few newspapers around the state today for another female Yorkie puppy...we can't get one yet until we find a house, but I still like to look ;) I found an ad for Yorkie puppies-both males and females, at a reasonable price-with a phone # that DID NOT match the one of the breeder we got Emma from. I double checked, just to make sure I didn't call her on accident. So, I called the #, and there was no mistaking her voice. I think she added a line or got a new #-could this be so that previous buyers couldn't find her!??! So, I asked her if she still had yorkies, and she said "1 male, 1 tiny female". I asked how much, and she's lowered the price on the female $300!!! After she wouldn't give me a better deal on one in the first place! !!! I just feel betrayed in a way, and I know I didn't want a puppy from her from this litter anyway, with them possibly being a mix and all. But still! I'm sure the puppies are getting older now and showing signs of a mixed breed-she wanted them gone by the end of November, and there were 4 in the litter. She was so certain that they'd be "Christmas Puppies" and they'd sell in no time..I'm kind of glad they haven't. Maybe she'll learn from this, that trying to pull the wool over people's eyes isn't the right way to go about business. |
Wow - she sounds like she's doing exactly what she wants to do and screw the people who think they're getting a purebreed yorkie. That's pretty sad and I'm sorry that happened to you - but people are out to make money and you're right - she probably wants them sold before the signs of the mix start showing. REAL nice. If I were you I'd feel lucky you and she had your little talk and just do a REVIEW on her in the Breeders Review section so it's out there on the net as a possible red flag for others who may be looking...this site gets alot of hits a day and many are only reading to find puppies. you may not be able to do anything but you can warn others about what you know to be true |
