Donating YT 30K Club Member | Help Cali got a hold of some aloe plant I was dusting and this little Aloe plant my Mom just gave me fell over and Cali grabbed a piece by the time I got it from her she had chewed it a bit but did not eat any. I am worried as the sticky stuff inside got in her mouth so I washed her mouth out right away. I checked the Posion website and it said Aloe is Toxic but does anyone know if the tiny juices she may have swallowed is dangerous? Thanks

| I'm betting she'll be alright, Patti. I would watch her. This is all I could find quickly: I would like to get an aloe plant to use as a salve for burns. Can I use it on my pets, too? —Michael K. Unfortunately, the Aloe vera plant, from the liliaceae family, does have toxic potential—both the outer portion and the inner, liquid portion. Aloe contains saponins, which can produce vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, depression, and tremors in companion animals. Due to the high probability of ingestion, we generally do not recommend using the plant as a salve on pets. http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer...cc_ask_archive

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks so much! I called Animal Emergency and they said it wasn't on the toxic plant list which is different than what we read! She did say to watch for vomiting and diahrrea. So far she seems fine.

| I hope she'll do fine. They get into things before you have a chance to pick them up. I know!

| I hope Cali is just fine. It seems strange that aloe juice is listed as toxic when several drinks contain this and the health benefits are always talked about... We'll be thinking of you!!!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I thought the SAME thing as Jodi - I see it in food or drinks all the time and we put it on our skin ! I hope she's ok but you were smart to be concerned ... |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks all! She seems ok. I thought it was odd to since my Mom gave me the plant for my husband's psoriasis and my dtr and my eczema I didn't think it would be toxic to anything. Hopefully the animal emergency is correct and it is non toxic. I did wash her mouth out real well so hopefully she will be fine.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Update!!! Cali seems fine today. Last night she was scratching terribly, much more than usual and kept swallowing loud. I gave her some Benydryl and she stopped itching and swallowing hard. I think she had a little allergic reaction to the Aloe. Thanks for the concerns!!!
