Heres a story So a few years ago i found a person that was selling a yorkie in the paper for $350 because he was a little older and kinda big so she needed to find a home for him. I finally talked my husband into letting me get him and so me and my brother in law went to pick him up. When we met the lady she put him on the ground to run around for a little bit and then picked him back up. Then a lady came out and petted him and all of a sudden he started flippin out and yelpin and all that stuff so she said she didnt want to sell me a puppy with something wrong and thought that it might have been cuz he was out in the field with the kids and maybe had a seed in his sinuses or something. Well when i met her at the vet they couldnt figure out what was wrong with him. So she said she would call me when they got the x-rays done so i went home and waited..and waited...and finally about 5 hours later i called her back and she told me that the puppy had a broken back and that they had to have him put to sleep...i was sooooo sad. so what im wondering is how the he** does a yorkie that is not around big dogs get a broken back...and why all of a sudden does he start yelping. It was a little weird. maybe she was trying to sell me a hurt baby...dunno but it sucked..poor baby

Hi Thought this might help. Was this lady sure that the yorkie had a broken back or was a broken neck? My Yorkie is around bigger dogs but he was born with a medical problem called Atlantoaxial Instability. All he did was jump off my lap and he broke his neck. He is two years old, but this happend 9 weeks ago. He was always crying about his neck and my vets kept saying that it was a pinched nerve give me meds and send him home. There is genetic diseases out there and this is one of them unfortunately. Myself I couldn't put my baby down. I had surgery done for him. At this time he is not walking, but he now has a cart to help him learn to walk and I do all his therapy. She might not of know that something was wrong with the poor baby. Sometimes they don't find it until it is to late. I know my vet misdiagnosed my baby 4 times. Have you gotten a new Yorkie since this happend.????? Val

Do you remember me telling you about my friends dog who had the AAI? Well she had the surgery, it was sucessful but while in recovery he lost the ablity to breathe. His brain stopped telling him to breathe. They tried so hard to make him breathe again, had him on a ventilator but when trying to get him off if it he just couldnt breathe. Sadly he passed on. I feel so bad for her and I still cry for her. She tried so hard to make him better. She did everything she could for him. Vet said this would of happened no matter what (surgery or not) and she was lucky it had happened while in the hospital. The situation would of been 10 times worse if he were at home. He would of died in her arms, tragicly Shes on a mission to help other moms who have to deal with this with their yorkies.

yeah this was like 3 or 4 years ago and im pretty sure she said it had a broken back...and that the vet said that it wasnt repairable so thats why they put him to sleep...it was sooooo sad...but then again they didnt seem like the family that would pay so much money for surgery if needed because they were trying to sell him...but yeah im pretty sure it wasnt his neck

Well then maybe it was best for that little guy. There is not many people out there that really want the reasonablity that comes along with a dog with disablities. I look at the differant Yorkie rescues and see the little furbabies out there that need a forever home with back and neck problems and I would love to take everyone of them, but unfortunely I have a disabled baby now. If you ever think of getting a furbaby with a problem like this think it over a lot. It takes every minute of your day like a really baby would, but with a lot more problems. Don't get me wrong I would do it agian in a heart be for my little guy, but for someone that would go into it blind it would be very hard.
