Emma's getting spayed tomorrow! Hi everyone, I'm pretty new here too. Emma is getting spayed tomorrow, and I'm a little nervous. I know it's the best thing to do for her since I'm not going to breed her and she's the right age and the right size (6 months and JUST 5 pounds)..but still! I love my little Emma-Lou so much, and I feel bad for putting her through surgery. Plus, she's getting the baby teeth that didn't fall out pulled out too!I know some of you have spayed your little girl babies-anything that will help me not feel so anxious about this? We've cleared the weekend, and we're going to watch movies and just hang out-my husband's going out of town so it will just be us girls. I bought her some soft food to eat until her teeth heal, and she likes wearing her onesies, so I think she'll be fine not chewing on her stitches with those on too. (We've been trying the onesies as PJ's, and she LOVES them!) I have baby aspirin ready to go...Is there anything else any of you have found helpful after coming home from a spay? |
I'm interested to see responses because Rocky is getting nuetered soon. We also use the onseys as PJ's...they look soo cute in them! I didn't know about getting him soft food though for the teeth pulling, I didn't even think of that! |
I'm also interested in finding out info. Angel is getting spayed on Mon. and is having her remaining baby teeth pulled. She'll be 9 months old on Oct. 6, and she's about 3 lb. 4 or 5 oz. We bought a premie onesie for her, which is still too big for her. She's not used to outfits so hopefully it'll be ok. Let us know how Emma's surgery goes. |
We all get nervous taking our babies in for surgery! Hugs to you! Sounds as if you are well prepared. The only suggestion I might add is be sure they send her home with pain meds. When I had Maddie spayed, they gave me pain meds for her and she did really well. Recently I read on here where a little one was sent home with no pain meds and cried nonstop all through the night. Poor little things shouldn't have to endure pain like that when there's medicine to help. Good luck and best wishes with the surgery! Emma is the same size as Maddie when she had her surgery. I used onesie's on Maddie too...they are great...plus they look so darling in them. Let us know how Emma is doing! I'll say a prayer for her! |
I know how you feel. Maddie had to have 2 hernias removed plus got spayed. I was so scared. She wasnt even 3lbs either, so that made me even more scared. Make sure the use the gas, and make sure to have preblood work done first. I'm sure she will be just fine. But its natural to worry. I'll keep you guys in my prayers. Maddie was really sore when she got home. its was sad.:( |
Cali had to be spayed while in heat due to a possible intestinal obstruction and liver biopsies and she was very tired for a few days and then she perked right up. The onsies work great! Let us know how all your babies are doing after surgery. Good luck |
you see like you have everything covered...Lady had the onsies on for the first few days until she learned how to get them off...lol...then on with the cone...she did great when I brought her home...just keep her quiet that night and let her rest, shes probably just going to want to sleep...I know its hard to put put this little ones though this, I was a wreck with Lady, and felt horrible, but its whats best for them and belive me she won't hold it against you. Try to relax (believe me I know its hard) everything will be ok. Please keep us updated on Emma |
Piper is also getting spayed today. Along with micro-chipping & baby teeth removed. I'm still nervous even thought I went through the 7 months ago with Misha. It is never easy. |
I was a wreck when I dropped her off this morning. I hardly slept last night, and was nervous this morning-which made Emma nervous! There are 3 doctors in the group-one we like, one I've never met, and the other Emma doesn't like. That doctor just seems to like big, boy dogs and is much more gruff-not exactly what I need for a little prissy girl puppy that wears pink bows and onesies! The good doc that I had requested wasn't there today-and the gal who scheduled the surgery didn't tell me that ahead of time. I burst into tears. I said I DIDN'T want the one doctor doing the surgery-but also didn't want to reschedule since I have this weekend all set up to be home with her, and won't have a free weekend for at least another month. They assured me the doctor I haven't met LOVES little dogs-has 3 herself-and would do a great job. A friend/coworker of mine takes her mini schnauzer to her, and likes her very much, so I figured that would be ok. I-through tears-agreed after lots of discussion. I had the pre-op bloodwork done, and we went through all the meds and everything that she would have. I left a onesie for her because I don't want one of those awful head collars on her :( They called just a little bit ago-she's out of surgery and doing well, just staring to wake up! I feel so much better! They told me to call back later this afternoon to see how she is. I'll let you all know when I hear more! Thank you all for your comments and encouragement! |
I'm so glad she's got her surgery behind her and it won't be long before she's feeling great again! Do you get to pick her up today? I hope so! It's so much easier on them to be home with the ones that love them and in a familiar place! Maddie sends get well kisses to darling little Emma! |
I should be able to pick her up tonight. I called again a little while ago, and she was getting her temperature taken. They said that she was pretty wide awake-which I think is a good thing. I want to bring my poor baby home! It's really hard to concentrate here at work-which is why I keep checking this forum :) |
I am also looking at this thread carefully. I am going to have my furbabies spayed. I have been checking out different vets in my area (Quad Cities) and the prices are so varied. Anywhere from 175 to over 500.... its very confusing but now I know a few more questions to ask when I call for estimates. I really don't want to put my babies thru this but I also know I must be a responsible pet owner. |
Aww I remember that nervous feeling, of waiting for the clock to hit 430 for me to go pick up my baby. I'm glad Emma is doing well, and the onesie works great! I use it on Coco. Except just be careful when she needs to go potty. If she goes in her onesie you don't want the pee pee touching the stitches, so be sure to monitor her as she goes potty. What I did is unclip the onesie, and bring it around the back and clip it around her back until she went potty, so i wasn't taking the onesie off and on constantly. |
I bet you had a sigh of relief when you heard she is doing well!! I know when it was Alfie and Lottie's time I worried so much ,but at last its all over and done with now just give her some TLC for the next few days. |
