| Microchip I am probably going to get Adie micrchipped when she is spayed and want to know more about it. I know how it works and everything but where do they put the chip? Can you feel it through their skin? Has anyone had any problems after having it done? TIA |

| Heres how it works...they put the chip behind the dogs neck where there is extra skin and you can regiester the chip so when they scan it your name comes up. Its like an ID tag that can't be removed. Oh and another thing...you can't see it or feel it. |

| I was told it's the size of a piece of uncooked rice... some vets insert 2 chips because of the frequencies used. They use a 10 guage insertion needle which imo is not small. I won't do it until Kinzi gets spayed & then I question the real effectivness.

| Lucy was chipped when she was fixed. I can't feel it, and there has not been a problem of any kind. |

| Cooper had his done when he was neutered with no ill effects. I can feel it, though...it does feel like a small grain of rice under his skin. Carley has one too, but I have not been able to feel it. I think it is better to be safe than sorry. It wasn't really expensive, and though they are never out of my sight..things happen. I hope it is never used, but it gives me peace of mind to know they have them. They also wear collars with name tags and phone #'s...and that is all the collars are for...we use harnesses with them for walking. The wear their collars 24/7, also for that peace of mind even though they never really leave my sight.

| I chipped Emma at the local animal rescue league's annual microchip clinic. It was quick, easy, and it didn't seem to hurt her at all. She was more interested in the treats they gave her. It took all of 15 minutes at the clinic, and seconds for the actual chipping. I can't see or feel the chip, and it doesn't bother Emma at all. I like knowing it's there, since we don't keep her in her tags unless she's outside. |

| Sissy was chipped at the local animal shelter just a few months ago. The chip is a little longer than a grain of rice, about the width of a cooked grain of rice, and is dark in color. I know this cause the first chip implanted fell out later that day But the 2nd one was implanted with no problem. It goes in between the shoulder blades and I can feel where Sissy's is. Sissy is 4 lbs in a body that looks much smaller and she did just fine with the chipping without anesthesia. She actually yelped less than when she received her vaccines. I chipped her because she doesn't regularly wear identification. I hope I never have to use it. The one thing that it does protect you is if someones steals your baby and you find her, you can verify she is yours by the microchip.

| It is placed in a syringe & injected between the shoulder blades around the back of the neck. Very tiny, I can't feel Misha's. Piper's getting her's today. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I am planning on getting Jack and Jilly chipped in November at an Animal Shelter event for a minimal of $15 each. My vet quoted me $100 just for Jilly when we get her spayed. I have read on YT many opinions on the subject.

| I can feel it.....it feels like a grain of rice My girl was micochipped when she was spayed, and it was inserted right in the middle of her shoulder blades... it seems like it has moved just a little so about an inch or so above her right leg.... And like someone else posted YES i can feel it. it feels like a grain of rice, its' that small when you touch it you can move it a little not really move the actual chip more like move her skin so the chip moves. (It is very small it its' not that easy to find, i just happend to be rubbing her back and found it) Anyway she didn't feel any pain and there have no complications or anything from it. IT was done in July.

| Thanks everyone. I think I got some good advice. I thought that sucker was going to be huge and Adie would have to be sedated while they put it in. I'm going to call over to the shelter and see if they will do her. I know they chip the dogs they adopt out but I'm not sure if they would do her too. Does anyone know if PetSmart does it and how much they charge? |
