| Information needed hello yorkie lovers and owners, I just joined this wonderful site. I have questions and hopefully I will get answers from you guys. Well, we have a 2.5 years old male yorkie named Stich. We brought our new female baby home a week ago. She is 4 months old and we love her already We were thinking of not getting Molly spayed (Stich is not spayed as well). The reason for that is because we wanna breed Molly in the future. Here comes the questions, How old will it be safe for Molly to be bred? What are the signs to know that Molly is in heat? How many times will she be in heat before the safe age? What can we do to prevent any accidental pregnancy before the safe age? Thanks |

| Welcome. I can't help you, but wanted to suggest that you re-post this thread in the "Breeders" section in case they all don't see it here. Perhaps you'll get more and better answers there.

| There really is no clear cut answer to these questions. The answers would differe from dog to dog. |

| Usually by the 2nd heat (sometimes 3rd) they are old enough to breed (minimum of 1 and 1/2 years, preferably closer to 2. It will be extremely hard to keep them separated. The only way is to be locked in separate kennels or rooms. It only takes one minute so don't rely on watching them or those training pants and belly bands for a method of birth control. Here's a link that tells about the heat cycle and what to watch for. http://www.debbiejensen.com/heat_cycle.html |
