| My Tootie should have been born a greyhound... he is almost big enough, LOL he JETS when he gets out the door... Hopey, she is still a little scared to run, but she did take off after the other dogs the other day, I will have to keep her leashed too.... I am way too scared that something will happen to either of them.

Ginger, on the other hand, is only ever off leash in our fenced in yard. Occasionally on walks in the woods, where no one is around, I'll drop my end of the leash and she does pretty well. But I would never risk it anywhere else. She has that chase first, ask later attitude. If you're not confident your dog will listen and stay with you, I wouldn't risk it. It only takes a second for something to happen.

| My two have never been off the leash, except on our enclosed deck. When we go for walks, they dart like maniacs when they see a rabbit or chipmonk, and today I had to pull Snickers back from diving into a groundhog hole. I KNOW they'd take off into the woods in a flash if something got their attention. It's too risky.

| I am trying to train Hope to stay with me outside, leash or not... even if she is on a leash and gets loose from it, I want her to know when to STOP. This morning, she took off in a run, I screamed, AHHHH - HOPE! She STOPPED and sat down! I am very proud of that... I would never let her loose in public places. d

| Yes, it depends a lot on their personality. Tatum is very laid back and obedient. We live in the country and have a barb-wire fence around the acre our house sits on and something similar to chicken wire the height of two sections up all along the fence. BUT we also have a cattle guard in the front and a big metal gate at the back where the dogs can easily get out. I guess when you're in the country, one of the first things the dogs get taught is to stay around the house. Tatum had no problem at all figuring that out. She also learned "come" quite young and we've had to use that a time or two. I do feel comfortable though leaving her to sit on the porch with Stormie, our Aust. Shepherd, from time to time but most of the time, someone is out there with her. That said, I would never take her out in public without a harness and leash. We go to the ball park during softball season when my daughter plays and I've had to actually pick her up in a split second when I sensed "danger" from another dog.
