| Male Marking Question I am going to look at a male puppy, but I am reading and have been told conflicting information on the marking. I was told that if you get them neutered by 4 months or so they will never mark. I just read one article that says they will pee on every upright object. Is this true???? Help! |

| Buddy was 14wks when I got him. He never, never lifted his leg in my house. I have no other pets. He was neutered at 6mos. My vet would not do it before 6 months. He was completey housebroken at 5months. He is now 2 1/2 and has never marked in my home or any other he has visited. Good luck with your decision. |

| I got my male neutered at 5.5 months old. He has NEVER marked ANYTHING. He still squats to pee! I think male yorkies that are neutered early make the best pets. They are so loving and cuddly. I say, GO FOR THE MALE! |

| If you dont want your puppy to mark getting him neutered at 4 months is ideal. I got Chachi done at 6 months and he marks outside but never inside.

| Oscar has never marked around the house and only lifts his leg to pee (not agains anything) every once in a while. He ALWAYS squats to pee outside. I really think it just depends on the dog - but I really think if you get him neutered earlier rather than later you can curb these habits before they really start.

| I have read about quite a few breeders that neuter early. I saw this: Breed (s): Yorkies Breeder/Rescue: Cheryl Nims How many years early spaying or how many litters: over 10 years Aprox. age of pups when procedure was done: 8-10 weeks Personal Observations and Experiences: I am Cheryl Nims and raise Yorkies. I have been early neutering the males for over 10 years now and have never had any bad results. Most pups are 8-10 weeks old and weigh between 1 3/4 and 2 1/2 lbs. Usually by the time I get them home from the vet they are up and playing like nothing ever happened. I strongly recommend early neutering to my customers but some are hard to sell on it as their vets are so misinformed. I think the time is coming soon that I will not let them make the decision and just neuter all the males. If they do not like it that is just tough. You can't beat a neutered male for a pet. I am not that experienced with the early spaying of female pups. The last one done experienced complications as she was not physically normal. It was quite a scare but the pup did recover. I have done early spays that were very successful but the complicated one set me back a little. My vet does the early neutering at a nominal charge as she feels it is a service worth doing to help the pet overpopulation. This can save my customers hundreds of dollars and perhaps the life of their new pet. I would strongly recommend early neutering. All the evidence is in favor of it. http://regaliapyrs.tripod.com/early_spay_neuter.htm Also, at the bottom of this linked page, there are a number of links to articles about early spaying and neutering - both for and against.

| Cole has never marked anything. I got him neutered at 6 months and he still squats to pee as well. I couldn't be happier with him |

| I just talked to my husband, and I could NOT convince him that a male dog if neutered will not mark everything in the house and not hump everything. I think we are stuck on a girl! Besides I want the pink bows and diva shirts. LOL |

| We got Teddy Bear neutered at 4 months and he has never marked in the house. He is a YorkieBichon mix but he was much easier to housetrain than my female Yorkie. He will lift his leg to pee on every tree when we walk but it is really too cute since he is so little and lifts his little leg so high. He squats in the yard to pee also. I have always had good luck with male dogs, in my experience the males I have had have been sweeter and more loving than my females. My females tended to be more independent, stubborn and maybe even feisty, but still very loving. I know that is not the case with all dogs, but just my experience. |
