I hope my posts weren't offensive, that's not what my intention was. I think we all see so many puppies coming from puppy mills or from breeders who aren't totally honest, that we tend to start asking lots of questions.

But, to answer your original question about male or female. I've never had a female, but I have a 10 1/2 week old male, and he's very affectionate and loves to cuddle. He's also really smart and is doing wonderful with potty training. I don't know what other's experiences are with males/females, but I'm extremely happy that I decided on a male.

You know, the pic of a “black yorkie” that I posted, I took it from a Russian yorkie forum.
And the story behind it, was very sad…
This girl bought a dog as a yorkie, and she was sure that she has a yorkie.
She come to the board, to show his pics…and everybody sad “ no..it’s a yorkiepoo..it’s not yorkie at all “
The girl was so upset…you can’t imagine how much she was upset because of it.
But she already loved the dog, so she keep him.

This is happened to her, because she didn’t asked.

So I will say it again, this is just great that you asked about it here, and don’t be sorry about it.

I have never seen a black yorkie, but i am staying open minded. stranger things have happened.

Also this family member of kelly's is a breeder (i think?) , so therefore he should know the breed standard. whereas your grandfather may not.

Piccolo mum said piccolo was pretty much all black when he was a pup and he is beautiful, with very beautiful colouring.

sorry, i'm no help with whether its a yorkie or not, nor whether males or females are the best. But I have 2 and both are females and both are different. So I dont think it matters whether its male or females you have some of both that are as easily trained as the other, are just as cuddly. I just hate the thought of a male hiking his leg to pee on everything. But I wouldnt trade either of my girls for 3 boy yorkies. And if you like the dog and its just a pet and thats what you want, dont worry what anyone else thinks. Do what you feel satisfies you. Its always nice to have a yorkie but there are mixes and other breeds just as nice. Its all according to what YOU prefer.
If they lied to you , you could just as easily be lied to by anyone else you buy one from. Some people just seem to get their panties in a wad over all this. I love my yorkies but I use to have a pekignese I loved just as much. So its all according to what YOU want yourself. I was lied to about one of mine. So much for breeders. Some are honest, some are not so honest. But I still love my 8 pounder who was suppose to be a 4 pounder. To be honest with you tho, even a breeder cant guarantee you how big it will get. you might end up with an 8 lb yorkie, yet get a mix and it stay 4 lbs. Just something you have to take a chance on. People will tell you their gonna be too small to breed to get you to buy it if they think you want small. I personally will never buy another yorkie unless they put it in writing I can get my money back and not a replacement dog from them. goodluck to you in whatever your decision is but when you get what you want, whatever it is, please share the pictures with us as I'm not one who just endorses everyone to get a yorkie. I like other breeds also and some are much cuter than some yorkies i've seen. so again. Good luck.

She is getting the pup from family that has bread for years. ???? I would never want my family put down. I just think even if you think no yorkie that you should wait to judge the pup till you see a picture. maybe when se saw the pup it looked to all black but there in a lil darker tan/bown? please don't take what I am saying wrong I just don't want another person shamed or upset enough to leave YT. just think of it as posting to yourself before you post and make sure if it was you that it would not upset you.

I have never seen a black yorkie, or a chocolate yorkie, nor have I seen a parti colored one.

There are people here that will swear that there are no parti colored yorkies, and the standard does not say there are parti colored yorkies, and therefore, they must be mixed.

If she gets it from a relative and is unhappy with it then I guess she'll have to cross that bridge when she comes to it.

When it comes to family, people can get very defensive. If she really wants to be sure, she can get them DNA'd for about $35 each for mom and dad and baby.

Read this link, quarter of the page down, it says, when born they are usually solid black and it can take up to 1 year for the tan colour to develop.

I really do appreciate everyone's input. I am thankful for it. I have learned a lot. I was just confused. I am checking more into it and as soon as I get some pics I will post them. But like I said, I do appreciate everyone's opinions and advice. Thanks so much and I can't wait to get my puppy and post the pics. Like I have said my brother has a yorkie and I love her so much. I love it when I get to babysit. I always pray his fiance or daugther will become allergic to her so I can have her ;)

I think you speak englsih well. What i meant was the person that bred these puppies is her family member, so as he is breeder he should know the standard set for this breed.

As your grandpa doesn't own a yorkie or breed them, no one can blame him for not knowing the difference between a maltese and a yorkie.

I am sorry But I can not believe you all...this poor girl is new to Yorkie Talk and she was so excited about getting this puppy from her family and now she is so confused about everything. I think everyone should wait before talking to her the way some of you have...If she has seen the puppies and seen the parents and it is her family, my God give her the benefit of the doubt....she may not have seen anything but black since they are so little and doesn't know what to look for, or maybe the are black and yorkies..Who knows..but quit being mean to her..:(

I haven't read through all the posts but have to say it is possible. We had a litter of 4 be very dark and at almost 9 months old are still as dark as the day they were born. First pic is of the mother, Sassy. Second is of father, Gizmo and other two are of Dinky. He has a little light tan on his legs but is just about as dark as I've ever seen. And he is pure yorkie!

and this is Star. She is from the same father as Dinky, mother is Reggie who is also Sassy's mother. The rest of the litter had normal puppy colors. She is much darker than the picture shows and at 5 months is still very dark.

Was the lighter color noticeable at all when he was under 8 weeks or was he pure black with no tan points?

and this is Star again. She's is starting to turn but will not be your typical tan/black. She's going to be more gun metal gray where Dinky is raven black.
