| 22 months and NO HEAT CYCLE! A friend of mine purchased a female to breed. She's 22 months old and hasn't come into heat as of yet. Do you think she'll come into heat? Could something be wrong?

Donating YT 14K Club Member | When did she get this dog? I've NEVER heard of a dog going this long without a heat cycle. How big is the dog? If she got it recently, it is possible that she was lied to and the dog has previously been spayed. If she's had the dog since it was a pup, then maybe the dog is a hermaphrodite. Has she had the dog checked out by a vet?

| The longest one of my girl's went was 18 months (first heat cycle). I'd question the vet about it.

| Are you sure that she did not have a heat. My girl went into heat in July at 10mths. I never would have known because she kept herself so clean. There was no trace what so ever. My daughter noticed it when she was rubbing her belly. She noticed a tiny amount of blood on her and asked me why she had blood on her pee pee. My daughter is only 4yrs old. But that is the only way that I knew she was in heat. I kept an eye on her until it was over. Checked and cleaned her everyday,(not that she needed it, but I thought it would make her feel good) Well anyway good luck to your friend. meeshue |

| Can't be a hermaphrodite -- in that case, it would have male sex organs also - and that would be quite noticeable --- right! I would suspect that she has had a "light not very noticeable heat cycle" in the past. But, since there can be quite a variance with women regarding their menstrual cycles - I suppose there may be some extremes with dogs. Or she may not have a completely developed reproductive system. I'm sure there could be a lot of reasons..... But if the dog is happy, healthy, playful, and affectionate - that's all that matters.. Carol Jean |
