| Thanks for the advice. I was nervous about this. I have often visited the websites of Yorkie-rescues and seen that the reason that many of these adorable dogs are no longer in their home is because they couldn't handle the addition of a husband or child. I don't have to worry about the husband issue...since we picked her out together. But I do want children. And she is a momma's girl. Hopefully it will work out as it did for you. Plus she will be a few years older and hopefully calmer by then. |

| I would recommend that she get used to being around children. Take her to the park if you have no relatives or friends with kids. I'm sure it will be fine. Lots of people I think are just overwhelmed with the responsibility of a new baby and don't want to worry about their dog anymore and give them up. It's very sad. Having a baby totally changes the relationship you have with your dog though. I didn't think it would and I swore it I wouldn't let it change, but it does. It all works out. |

| Whispersmom has just touched on a problem I had recently with a child. We have 1 daughter and she does great with my yorkies. She had a friend over the other day and Chachi got outside the door and was barking at him. I caught the kid kicking Chachi in the face. Chachi is only 16 weeks old and could have been hurt. I think you can have yorkies and children but you have to be realistic about the things that can happen. And You always need to watch when others children are visiting as I found out.

| uk yorkie lover, I have the same problem. Gucci takes Evie's (my daugther) toys and shoes to hide them. Evelyn have to run after her to get them back. I always end up telling Gucci to "drop it", for her to let go the toys. She used to bite my daugther's feet not hard of course, but she has calm down. I also notice that if i repremend my daugther Gucci's bark at her. They adore each other, when Evie is sleeping Gucci lays next to her. Also Gucci takes her toys close by Evie to play. Yorkies can be very funny. Gucci is the Baby of the house. Everyone spoils her. |

| I bought my first Yorkie when I was 16 and she was my world. I had my first daughter right before I turned 19 and Candy was jealous but never mean or sad, and by the time my daughter started crawling Candy would follow her everywhere. When my daughter started preschool Candy would sit by the door and wait til it was time for us to go get her. They loved each other so much. My girls were tought to pet soft before they could even crawl, and I have never had any problems...
