For Snickersmom!

for all the encouragement and advice - if you have any more keep it coming!
they are not littermates but picked up and raised together since the age of 8wks old...
they follow each other everywhere if you pick one up the other is at your feet and they sleep together etc
they are very sweet... i hear what you are saying with making sure they dont keep snickers out but i am not sure how to do that
esp since right now i can't keep them in the same room for longer then 10-20minutes

i know its going to take time - one of the reasons i wanted to do this (besides the obvious gotta love having yorkies) is so snickers would have some playmates too
she is mad at me at the moment - no kisses last night and slept at the other end of the bed
but i kept trying with her i will keep trying...

right now they seem to be on the aggressive side - if snickers doesnt start it then one of the other two will...
but it hasnt even been 24hrs yet so we will see... they can see each other but not get at each other the baby gates are up right now

I'm so happy you were able to adopt these babies! I know it will just take some time for Snickers to adjust, she has no idea why her mommy has brought these 2 new furkids into "her" house, so give her extra love and she will adjust soon!
I cant wait to see some pictures of these new babies!!!

The best bet would have been to introduce them in a neutral environment.... She is just protecting her home and her place in it!

I just dog sat a couple of weeks ago and Woah!!! That was a big shock to my girls! Two new girls!!! They did not know it was only going to be for a week!!! The spent the first three days fighting it out for their place in the ladder.... Pixie was on top, then lucy, then paris, and finally holly and gizmo... he is such a wuss.... but it was very scary to my daughter... they fought, growled, snapped... but it was all teeth and drool, mostly bark and no bite... They were just trying to establish themselves... I'm sure your gal is just trying to set some ground rules with them... I'd let them work it out!! Thats what I did here... It was a sight!! But they worked it out! One will roll over! And that will be it! unless the loser decides to jockey for position again... lol

ok... I'm going to add something to my post....

I would never reccomend letting them work it out if you have an agressive dog.

I just don't want anyone thinking that I am for letting dogs fight it out! Thats not the answer... But 90% of the "fighting" that goes on is not really fighting at all... Its just a battle for position... And nobody gets hurt...

If they are actually attacking!!! Then Yikes... Its a problem! But it really sounds like your gal is just pissed and trying to let them know how its gonna work in "her" home!

I know it has to hurt to have her be mad at you. I can't say that definitely it will change, but I would bet that it will. It doesn't always, but it usually does. If you can ever get the three in one picture without fighting, I'd love to see the three together.

i never had considered snickers an "aggressive" dog - she is ok in puppy class and great with ppl and kids... i really didnt know what to make of it
should i let them all in the same room even with the barking and growling and snapping for a bit and see what happens? i have been stopping it pretty much and seperating right away should i not do that??

it definately does she is my baby... sleeps with me and lots of kisses so it was a change for me
i will try lol but can't guarentee a pic for a bit - i would be satisfied if they were on oppisite ends of the room w/out any trouble lol but i will try... my computer still isnt working anyway altho hopefully it will all be up and running soon

Ok..I want to give a suggestion or two..why not put them all on a leash, take them out of snickers territory and take them over to a park that snickers has never been to or a school yard after school of course. Keep their leashes on but let them growl and sniff butts and maybe argue it out a little bit. SOMEONE has to be Alpha dog and they have to work that out between them. If it gets to the point someone is going to get hurt then their leashes are already on them and you can pull them apart.

My Darla met her "cousin" who is a shnauzer (sp) this weekend. My SIL was freaking because her Katie was snapping and growling at my Darla. I said oh let Katie go and they will be fine. Of course I was ready to jump in if need be, but within a few minutes they were best friends, running and playing the day away!! The more she held Katie away from Darla the more Katie wanted to attack her, when we let them both free to meet and check each other out all was well. My SIL was shocked Katie loved Darla!! I wasnt shocked at all...MOST dogs that are well trained will get along just fine. A little scrap is normal to find out the order of senority..once that is figured out..I believe the anomosity will be gone.

Also I wanted too add, when they are still on leash let their leashes drag on the ground, dont hold them back from each other...its easy to scoop up the leash and pull them apart if you need to...I have a feeling you will be pleasently suprised!!

ok so its been a crazy 48hrs... i thought it was the girls that may be a problem but boomer got snickers real good and i thought he was going to drag her around by her neck i had to seperate them quick...
it was a hard night i had them seperated all day and together for about 5-10min at night
boomer has been marking the house and barking at snickers and trying to get at her and snickers has been uncontrollable hyper and def scared often hiding behind my legs
karma has come around quite a bit and she is getting so loving and friendly letting us bathe and groom her and hold her and she has been seperating herself from boomer quite a bit? ?? she doesnt seem to want to sleep with him she follows us around
its the oppisite of what i was thinking would happen
still not sure what to do today they are TOTALLY seperated where they can't even see each other...
training class is friday i am hoping she can help too...

Wow! That's the opposite of what I was expecting, too. It will all take time, I'm sure. Just need lots of patience, love, understanding, and a great trainer!

Wow you sure are having a rough transition...one dog would have been difficult but two must be near impossible!!! I bet things will get easier for you, the training class teacher will probably have tons of ideas to help out your family...good luck and keep us updated on their progress!!
