Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | BEWARE and TURN OFF YOUR PAPER SHREDDER This is really incredible and who would think about this in their home as being a danger to their PETS ? I just got this from Tricia in an email - Thank you girl !! http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/shredder.asp it talks about curious dogs getting their tongues mangled in the Auto On function of a paper shredder. Any one with small kids would already be careful I hope ...but dogs are getting hurt too. The way to be safe is to UNPLUG the shredder and only plug it in when it's in use |

| Wow, that's sad. I do have one and never thought of it. I think its too high to cause any harm to Reagan(never can be too sure though) but I just saw my new kitten climbing on it about 30 minutes ago. Thanks for this post I had it on the auto on so I just turned it off and unplugged it. Mine also has a push button on top and if you push it its starts it going so I can only imagine if she stepped on that and her fur or tail was down in there. Good post V, I'm sure most of us never would've thought about something like this.

| My shredder is now off and unplugged. I don't think mine could have got to it, but I'm not taking any chances. Thanks Villette, what would we all do without you???

| I've never turned mine on or plugged it in when i'm not using it. If I need it I just plug it in and run the paper thru and unplug it. Always. good tip for people tho.

| Oh my gosh...I would have never thought! Mine is now unplugged. I don't think Maddie would jump onto it and do that, but never say never! Better safe than sorry! Thanks Villette!

| That's horrible! We have a shredder, but it's only plugged in when we're using it. I think I'll just put it away somewhere before I bring Jake home. |

| I ALWAYS leave the paper shredder unplugged. I also make sure there are no dangling electric cords in areas where Sean runs around. Scary what they can get into! |

| Every once in awhile you read about little kids getting their fingers mangled in shredders, but I would never have thought about a little doggie getting into one. Good advice.
