| Flea? Tick? Nooo.... This morning I was playing with Peanut, when I noticed that there was this black looking thing that dashed by his tummy and into his black hair. Ahh! I was holding him in a weird position and so I couldn't get it off! How big are fleas anyways? And what about a tick? The thing I saw was about 1/10th of a centimeter. Also, since I couldn't find it, do you think I should go out and get products or something to deal with it before it spreads...whatever that thing was. Because if it's the only critter he has on him, I dont want it to multiply. How embarassing... Thanks! Peggy |

| Sounds like a flea, ticks are usually in place or slowing moving, fleas jump around really fast... pull back the hair (like your parting it) on the back and see if you can find more... where there is one flea there are usually more. |

| If it moved that fast it was probably a flea. I would get a flea preventative and put it on him

| It was definately a flea! You should wash him in Dawn dish soap and put Frontline on him once he's dry. That will knock all the fleas out in no time. |

| Ok neat tip! I didn't know about the Dawn dishsoap! Is it safe to use on expectant Yorkies? We have had fleas BAD this year and the dogs have been treated, but today I noticed another coupld on Autumn and she already had the monthly treatment from the vet and I don't think they will give her another till next month and we don't want fleas on the puppies! Ernie (hubby) and I already gave the house a treatment and Gizmo doesn't have any fleas on her, just Autumn. Weird?

| Fleas!! ANY dishsoap will work. Fleas will die in dishsoap and water. Another good tip would be to buy a fleacomb, if the flea situation is REALLY bad. It comes with small bristles (you can also use it to touch up your yorkie's face) that actually "catches" the fleas in between the bristles. They tell you to comb with a cup of water and dishsoap so you can dip the comb if you catch one of those buggers! You will see it scrambling and eventually floating to the bottom-dead. Another more natural way to temporarily shock the fleas is iced water. My friend found this out by accident!! So once you catch a flea, either by hand (pinching method) or by combing, you dip it into the iced water, where it will freeze. Once you are finished, flush the entire contents of the water down the toilet and voila! you're done! Hope this helps!! I am a Flea Master in Training... my friend is so good he squeezes the fleas dead between opposing nails as he catches 'em and then rounds up all the dead fleas later!!! BOw to the flea master!!!! |

YT 3000 Club Member | fleas do not like anything with cedar, or eucalyptus or alot of that citrus stuff, I use revolution on chester and I will still use some on his collar and a small spot of stuff on the end of my finger and dab it on.This way the fleas will not even bother to bite him. I get the oil from super supplements or any health food/ vitamin store. |
