| When we took our 5 puppies to get their tails docked, the Vet said he cut off 1 inch. All of their tails turned out very nice.

| Working dog]s tails were docked in the past because it made it easier for them to move around in their working environments - and it made it less likely that they would incur injuries to their tails while doing their jobs. However - few of our "working breeds" really do the type of work that they were bred for anymore ---making tail docking only something that we do to achieve the "look" that we are used to with different breeds. It has definitely become more cosmetic and less necessary today. For this reason (and rightfully so), a lot of people believe that it no longer should to be done. And - there is no doubt that there is current a strong trend against docking dog's tails. I suspect that in the future most breed's tails will no longer be docked. Carol Jean |
