Puppy's Ears Not Perking We got our puppy almost 2 and half weeks ago. She is, of course, the absolutely cutest and sweetest puppy alive (I'm sure all Yorkie owners say that). Anyway, her ears are still drooping. They have been shaved and we were told that when they are teeting that their ears may droop until they are done. However, I just want to make sure that I do everything I can to help them perk. She's 10 weeks old now and very small (1.5lbs) and her ears are quite large (at least they look large on her), so I don't know if that has something to do with it. I heard you can also tape their ears to help them perk up. Does anyone have any experience with this and can help out? Thanks!!! Last edited by strider; 09-10-2004 at 08:58 AM.

I wish I was help to you on giving advise about making the ears perk. I have a few books that show how to tape the ears, shave them etc. in aid of making them perk up. My Schatzie is almost 5 months and her ears are semi-perked. They do not lay flat against the side of her head but pop up then the tips fall over. It's kinda cute actually! I was real concerned for months but the longer we had her the more I personally became attached to her floppy ears. I am not sure if this is correct but the AKC standard readings Ive come across say the Yorkies ears can be perked up or semi-perked. Again, not sure what is correct. Either way Schatzie's personality really comes out in her ears. I can always tell what kind of mood she is in by her ears. Im thrilled now to have a "differant" looking Yorkie and love her dearly. And I am glad you love yours too. Good luck with her!!

She is still quite young,so dont worry I dont beleive in taping,I wont get tired of saying this..lol.I honestly think that if your puppys ears want to stay droopy, they will do so,no matter what you do to prevent it..but if they decide to stand, this will happen on its own. I have 2 yorkies and have done nothing to help their ears stand (exept shaving ) and they both have lovley ears, not floppy at all.A friend of mine taped her yorkies ears for 2 whole months (on and off of course) and his ears are droopy,so I can only recomend patients and to keep the ears free of hair.If theyre going to stand they will, and any time now

still hope I have one 4 yr old whos ears are perky and perfect. the other one is 5 months old and has one ear up and one down. I have tried the taping and couldn't stand it on her for more than a couple hours. I gave up on that idea and just make sure that i keep them shaved good. You might say we are 1/2 way there. LOL. I think the other one will go up on its own. If not then I don't care if she don't. She dont' complain about my ears.!.

ears Strider, Well, my booboo had one ear down and one up.. My breeder used the tapes oh her for weeks (i couldn't tell you for how long). I got her at 13 weeks old. I put tapes on and off. At exactly 16 weeks and all of a sudden her ears went up. Some one in this forum told me that her ears would pop up at 16 weeks .. but can't remember who told me that. My breeder gave me a secret on how to put the tape so no one sees it. Buy breathable Johnson tape, and put just a piece inside her ear. Of course cut in the shape of her ear. The tape is strong enough to keep the ear up. No one will see she has the tape. The first week I didn't know and I was wrapping tape around her ear.. Looked like she had had her ear cropped.. u don't want to give that bad impression Anyway, my 2 cents. -R

Hi! If you keep their ear shaved and rub them they should come up. I also had my dog groomed as soon as he had all his shots and the groomer would shave his ears and they stood up. I don't much about taping ears I never had to do that. My breeder was shaving his ears after he was born by the time I bought him he was six weeks old.

| Strider .... our Toto's ears had just "popped up" when we got her at 16 weeks! I don't think it would have mattered to us if she had been "earless"!! I'd say ... give them a little time, keep them trimmed and everything will probably fall in place in it's own time!! Keep us posted!

Thanks! Thanks for the replies! I have just shaved her ears again so hopefulyl that will help. She is just now 11 weeks old (tomorrow) so I know there is still hope? When she looks up, they perk (naturally they would), so I do get a glimpse into the future.

Does anyone have a picture of yorkie with their ears still floppy as an adult? I don't know if I have seen one, I just assumed that all of their ears eventually stand up on their own.

I'm not sure if I've seen shaved ears flopped down, but these two look like they weren't shaved.

My Binky has semi floppy ears too. I first got him when he was 7 weeks old and they were almost flat against his head. He turned 3 months old yesterday and I can see a big difference already. His ears are half up and half down. Its like the tops of his ears arent cooperating. Hes a cutie anyways. I kinda started to like his floppy ears. Also, when I first got him he didnt move his ears around at all, but how they show so much expressions. Its really cute. Give your baby some time. His ears will come around

I love it when thier ears are at half mass. They are just too cute! but they grow out of it so quickly. one of my pups ears didnt stand until she was 6 months old another we nicknamed batman cause his ears stood up at 5 weeks old and he looked like a little bat, Of course he was way too cute too. Be patient. I have one that her ears dont stand I am so used to it I think she would look funny with them up. wouldnt change a thing she is cute just the way she is. I would post a pic. but I dont know how. Cindy
