I have a rescue....a Pitt Bull/Rottie mix. He can be the sweetest thing....definetly the biggest baby in my house. However,.....you cannot correct him in any way...growling occurs. He has been so abused and is blind in one eye due to being shot directly in the face. I just love him. I can't stand the thought of him being put down. However, there have been several times I would have taken him back to the shelter if I wasn't sure it would be the end of his life. He has so much love to offer....but everything has to be perfect and stress-free. I know that everyting I own (or atleast am in debit for) is on the line as long as he is with us. I have checked the Yorkie resuces and they are very old or very sick and require a lot of medical needs. Would I do it again......honestly, I couldn't say "yes". Am I for it....I would definetly say "Yes". Do I sound like a hyprocrite....again, I'd say "Yes".

I have a golden retriver i rescued She is 3 and very well behaved now that i trained her . I have had her 1 1/2 years and she could not even sit when i brought her home. I would love to have another yorkie but I have to many furry ones already.

I have read this post and get sadder with every post. I WANT to rescue, I have been to just about every place possible and they have all either declined, or mostly not answered AT ALL!
I certainly agree with being careful with placement, but I dont understand that if there are so many rescues out there, why they turn do so many people who seem to be pet lovers.
I have 4 furbabies now... why in the world would I want another one if I didnt understand taking care of it? My babies are the most spoiled and I must say, well behaved that I know. My family and friends think I am crazy because my babies are so spoiled-they get it times 3 with me and my daughters.
It is SO frustrating to try to adopt a pet, with Tootie, after several months, I too, resorted to a breeder. I am very glad I did but would still like to adopt.
I am desperately seeking a new baby to add to our family. If anyone has any suggestions, or a rescue, let me know.... I am holding out on a breeder but have just about made up my mind.

Let me tell you my story of a rescued dog we got. He was up for adoption and my husband had just lost his job due to his COPD, he was alone all day as I worked, our last child in school all day, he was getting depressed. Picked up Brodie, had him for 3 months got out the front door and was hit by a car. After spending over $4800.00 on medical bills, for which we had to take out a loan for, he was back to normal. Months later my husband ended up going into the hospital due to his COPD, and when he came home he was very weak, which is always the case anyway. I was traveling more and could not spend the time with Brodie, so after months of soul searching it was decided that it was best to bring him back. We had no issues with him and he was a great dog. I explained that due to his size that he should NOT be placed with young children, although he was fine with our grandbabies, did not like men with hats, did bark alot etc. DID NOT BITE ANYONE. I brought him in, filled out all the necessary paperwork, they asked if I wanted him placed or destroyed, of course I wanted him placed. Well, he was placed with a young woman and her parents, several weeks into her ownership the dog bite her boyfriend, weeks later he nipped at the mother and then bite the young woman too. Well, to make this story shorter, they put the DOG DOWN, and are now SUEING US. AND THE ASPCA IS SUEING US TOO.. We will be going to court in OCTOBER... SO, we will NEVER rescue another dog nor will any member of my family either...As a footnote we were the second owner of this dog and never received any information regarding his previous owner.

I am sorry things have turned out the way they did, but I don't understand why you chose to bring a rescue back to the shelter. Shelters are like the worst destination for dogs that have enjoyed the comfort of a home and have owners they got attached to, especially the shelters that give you the option to "destroy" animals. Did you try rehoming yourself? And, why are they suing you? On what charges?

Here are pictures of a kitten that I rescued . He was almost dead when I found him near a trash can , now he is living with one of my friends .

When you rescue from a shelter you HAVE to sign a contract stating that if you ever decide you can't keep the animal it HAS to go back to the shelter. That is how it is here in PA. However, that animal was no longer hers and it is such a shame they are going to try and sue her. I surely hope it doesn't happen!!!!

Wow! That's one crazy story!

well most places want just as much to rescue/adopt a small dog as to outright buy from a breeder..that may have some to do with some people's decisions . also you don't really know why these dogs are in shelters their behaviuors health manners and so on it makes people wary . poor dogs!

Here is the rest of my story. Yes we are being SUED. We tried everything trying to rehome Brodie, my children all had dogs and young babies in their homes. Tried D.R.U.its a Doberman Resue, we could not bring him to them because he was micro chipped by the ASPCA and they require that the dog be returned to them. Had my husband not been so weak from his COPD illness we would have kept Brodie. We spent well over the $4800.00 on him, had blood transfusions, spleen removed and all the medication, so as you can see we cared enough about him to go into debt. After many months of soul searching we decided to return him. They promised to make sure a good home was found for him. He was adopted again by a young woman, and Brodie after several months in her home, did bite her boyfriend and two weeks later bit her, and did cause some damage. They are sueing us for damages saying that we were not honest about his behavior and the ASPCA is sueing us saying we were not truthful when we brought him back..This dog never showed signs of aggessiveness nor did he bit anyone in our house. Had to hire a lawyer, we have a court date in October. Also we were the 2nd. owners of Brodie....So you see rescue is not for me... Anyone have any legal advice ??
