I haven't posted in ages. Been too busy. But I want to pick the minds of all you yorkie lovers out there. We have an 18 mo. old female named Yachtsea who is the love of our lives. Problem is she's totally spoiled. She suddenly has started barking at people a lot. Especially men. Or if someone just puts a hat on or changes clothes, she starts barking at them. It's started to annoy some of our boating neighbors on our dock. Also she has started growling & getting aggressive w/other dogs. She tried to take on a Rottweiler the other day. She also has started snapping at people who try to pick her up when she's all snuggled in somewhere. Even me! I'm going to take her to doggy school in the next week or two. My question is, our breeder (whom we love) called & has a 10 wk. male she would like us to take. She knows how much we love Yachtsea & we did talk about getting a 2nd one. We're not sure about a male because of hiking their legs etc. We'd get it neutered as soon as poss. Do you think getting him would help Yachtsea? The only drawback we were concerned with was the issues of taking 2 dogs with us everywhere like we do her. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt that another dog would make any difference at all on the barking issue. Two dogs are not that much harder to take than one, and they do keep each other entertained.

Sounds like some of the same problems we had with Scout. We want so much for him to be friendly to everyone, but he feels like he owns the place and must protect it! We have started correcting him with an aluminum can with pennies in it...we shake it at him the second he starts barking or looks like he's going to start. It's helping. Also, we've had to really lay down the law on who's the boss at our house by only letting him on the furniture when we invite him (that was a difficult one, he'd look at us so sadly, like we were rejecting him, but now he "gets" it). He's doing alot better about the whole boss of the house barking. He's the second dog at our house, so the part about adding another dog I don't know about since our other Yorkie, Pippa, never barks. I think it would be good for Yachtsea to have a little healthy competition!
