Sounds like some of the same problems we had with Scout. We want so much for him to be friendly to everyone, but he feels like he owns the place and must protect it! We have started correcting him with an aluminum can with pennies in it...we shake it at him the second he starts barking or looks like he's going to start. It's helping. Also, we've had to really lay down the law on who's the boss at our house by only letting him on the furniture when we invite him (that was a difficult one, he'd look at us so sadly, like we were rejecting him, but now he "gets" it). He's doing alot better about the whole boss of the house barking. He's the second dog at our house, so the part about adding another dog I don't know about since our other Yorkie, Pippa, never barks. I think it would be good for Yachtsea to have a little healthy competition! |
