A very reputable breeder in my area sold a lady a yorkie puppy. He looks just like on with AKC papers and all...but, he is about 3X bigger and weighs 16 lbs at 6 months. Could just be a throw-back from somewhere along the lines. The lighter colored yorkies are becoming very popular down here. Those techs just didn't know what they were talking about. I wouldn't worry about that. My friend bought a yorkie that was black and tan. Riley is 4 1/2 months old now and it appears that he will be silver all over! Blow those people off! |
2 Attachment(s) Im sorry you had to listen to that silly woman at the vet clinic:( I know whats its like for people to say things like that but in the ned you have to just ignore them. When Jess was about 3 months old,she started going through the typical ugly duckling stage, her hair got thin and she lost alot of it..infact,it went from being thick and long (at 8 weeks) to being very short and coarse (after 12 weeks).Every time people saw her picture they would comment on her looks, they would say that she wasnt actually a yorkie,so I started to get really paranoid,I even got embarresed about posting her pictures after some nasty comments.I went to see her breeder who had only been breeding a short while, and of course she was so worried about her reputation, that SHE payed for Jessies DNA test to prove that she was the daughter of the two purebred yorkies I had seen. After that I didnt care what anyone said and one day the ugly duckling stage passed to reveal a yorkie!! lol.Ok..so Jess doesnt have the short snout that Lady has..her legs are short, her body is long..but shes my baby and I adore her the way she is and as MY yorkie,I dont care what others think of her at all:) Im sure your baby is BEAUTIFUL and as long as you love him, thats all that matters:) Heres Jess back at 12 weeks and then her now..at 12 weeks I couldent post her picture without certain people insisting that she wasnt a yorkie: |
just curious": (im too lazy to look it up) what is the color supposed to be for the AKC standard??? |
My yorkie is 11.3 lbs and my mothers is 14 lbs some times they just turn out different. I like to think it makes them special. |
i just took a look at toby's hair and it looks like maybe the next haircut or the haircut after that he will be almost completely silver grey..... the roots all show the lighter color and they are about 1/2 inch long.....i cant wait until he gets out of the Ugly duckling stage |
My vet actually challenged the age of my yorkies when I first took them in to her. She said they were much younger. I think she had just never seen them so small at that age. I had two that were i lb at 3 months. It wasn't until she saw the teeth that she beliveved me! I switched vets! |
Prissy, I just saw a pic of your girl with her baby when you were referring to her coloring on this thread. Does she have a tale? She looks a lot like my girl Bitsy who has similar coloring and a tale:) She's pretty! Just curious about her tale. |

I have a litter of pups with tails.. Just wanted to see how they look and how people will react to them.. I personally love the tails on yorkies. This pup is 4 1/2 weeks old.. |
Oh how cute!!! Thanks for posting the pic and responding so quickly! I had all my puppies tails docked and now I regret it. I wish I had left them long. I personally love them long too but was afraid no one else would. :( |
AKC Standards Colors Puppies are born black and tan and are normally darker in body color, showing an intermingling of black hair in the tan until they are matured. Color of hair on body and richness of tan on head and legs are of prime importance in adult dogs, to which the following color requirements apply: Blue: Is a dark steel-blue, not a silver-blue and not mingled with fawn, bronzy or black hairs. Tan: All tan hair is darker at the roots than in the middle, shading to still lighter tan at the tips. There should be no sooty or black hair intermingled with any of the tan. Color on Body The blue extends over the body from back of neck to root of tail. Hair on tail is a darker blue, especially at end of tail. Headfall A rich golden tan, deeper in color at sides of head, at ear roots and on the muzzle, with ears a deep rich tan. Tan color should not extend down on back of neck. Chest and Legs A bright, rich tan, not extending above the elbow on the forelegs nor above the stifle on the hind legs. |

Your yorkie is darling and has beautiful coloring:) |
I'm a bit confused with the coloring as well. At puppyfind.com the description of the hair color is different than AKC, why? Country of Origin: England. Size: Shoulder height: Weight is: 2 - 3 kg (4.5 - 6.5 lbs). Coat: Consists of very long, silky hair. The color is golden-brown wtih steel-grey. |

you know, i had a similar question. trio is four months and is already 7lbs. his hair on his back is black wiht silvery roots. weird. he also has some white mixed with tan, i love hi tho. he reminds me of a silky a litle, but his face is all yorkie |
Colors can be very tricky . My best friend have a Yorkie girl who only change her colors at 18 months old . He was really desesperated and think I'll have a black and tan for the rest of his life . He kept asking his breeder about it and the answer was she will change it . |
