I have seen so many yorkies that were so light they just looked platinum all over! She doesn't know what she's talking about! Its rather rude as well to talk to you like that in my opinion! |
i am sure he is probably a yorkie.......... they change colors up to three years old and there are MANY VARIATIONS on the shadeing.......Take my toby for example, he was the classic "black and tan" but now the new hair that is coming in is very light silver, there is even a patch on his neck that looks almost WHITE because the hair is so light........ i agree with everyone else and tell the tech to mind her own buissness (toby is only 7 months old now and he allready has lots of silver coming in.......... actually i wish he would get on with it and change colors allready because with the lighter coat color it looks like he is going bald and patchy  ) |
Angela, I just wanted to say that chinese cresteds are so cute too~ |
Thanks.....I got out of them, but they are a very different breed. I wish I could have kept both breeds, but I am wanting to show yorkies and I have a lot to do with them. I regret selling the last puff I had, she was defiantly a good show potential.......I need to look her up and see how she is doing, they were going to start her in the ring. Angie |
I completly agree. Lil Bear's colors are on the look of other yorkies but since we live in Fl and I have had sooooo many bad experiences with groomers, I do the grooming. I will get approched by people and they go well no she's not a yorkie, she's got short hair...like all have to be prissy (sorry no ofence (sp)) or they are not full bred yorkies. She also has the floppy ears and I have had to explain to people that yes she is a true yorkie. I have to agree I don't think the tech knew what she was talking about, nothing personal but I worked at a vet's for a while till my allergies became more expensive than my pay and there were a few techs I wouldn't let touch my pup let alone believe what they said. Only a true yorkie person can see the inner yorkie. When we were in Williamsburg, Va last Dec. a lady came up and immediately said she's a yorkie I can tell in her face. |
Kaymo: I am not trying to take away your thread or push it away . I was just wondering if Pat could tell me if she knew what Durrer's Website is. I have been trying to find it and can't find it anywhere!!! Now this part is for you Kaymo: Don't worry about what the vet tech said, the most important thing is you love your baby. To me it really sounds like a yorkie; because mine is going through all the same stages and colors. But, you must admit to yourself regardless of the color or what they look like, they will absolutely steal your heart away at first glance. :) |
1 Attachment(s) Here is one of my yorkies with her baby.. Just showing her color.. She is 4 years old now and kept getting lighter. She has AKC papers but as someone mentioned it works on the honor system. I'm with everyone else... just ignore what the vet tech said.. |
Can I just say..... Vet Tech,,, Vet Schmech.... |

Unless you're breeding or showing, does it really matter? To me, we just love our little dogs. 3 pounds or 15 pounds, blue or black or white. They are just such a joy to have in our lives. |

Thank you all so much! I appreciate your support and knowledge. He's my baby and you're right, I couldn't love him more if he were green and weighed 50 lbs. My hubby thinks I've spoiled him rotten, but one look at that sweet face and I melt, plus he's such a good boy. I did tell the vet about his unprofessional staff though, and for the record he said DNA wasn't necessary cause he's 100% yorkie. |
I also have two very light muted yorkie females. I enjoy the sheen to their coat so much I bred them to a extremely light (silvery) yorkie male too. Tan head, Gold head, almost white head.........black, blue, dark silver, almost white silver.......yorkies can come in all those colors. They also come in other variations too but not real common. One color may not be the standard, one color may but it doesnt mean they arent yorkie. Some people get a general idea of how things are and just touch the surface........and they think they know the whole breed or story........but many times there is alot more to do it. No disrespect intended but just because they work at a vets office does not mean they are as knowledgeable as they would like to act. The best place to start if you didnt think your yorkie was purebred was a research of the breeder or lines. Yorkies are a unique breed in many ways. Hugs to your yorkie! |
My Shelbie was Very light when she matured and she was beautiful! Alot of people prefer the light ones. That tech is by no means a yorkie expert and has probably only seen a few yorkies and the majority are darker. don't let it bother you, I used to hear it alot because Shelbie weighed 11 pounds. so what, we all come in all shapes and sizes and colors even when we are supposed to be a certain way. :aimeeyork :D |
Stewie has a bit of white on him, too. I hate stupid people. |
