Annabelle was attacked
 

This morning I was taking Annabelle out potty, it is our morning routine. I let her walk up around my tuck to the back hill and she does her business. Today there was a stray on the other side of my truck that i did not see until it attacked Belle. It picked her up in the air and started to shack her. I immediately started yelling and trying to grab for it when it dropped her. Annabell took off after it trying to get it back. She didn't have any signs of injury so I watched her for a few minutes. She started to shake uncontrolably, I rushed her to the vet. THey sent us home and within minutes she started to pass blood. We went back to the vet and they Xrayed her to see if there was any interenal injuries. There were none. He decided to get somoe blood and while we were waiting her back end started to swell, right near her Tail. We relooked at the xray and sure enough there is an air pocket above her tail bone. The other dog must have punctured her in the hind leg area. We could find no signs of one though. We were sent home with antibiotic and antiflamatory medicine. Since then the swelling has spread down through her perineal area and it looks as though a puppy is crowning. Her milk is drying up fast. Yes her puppies are 10 days old now. I have started bottle feeding them , but would love to learn the tubing technique. The vet says to leave her with the pups and maybe they will be able to keep her milk coming in by stimulation. I feel so lost and mad :mad: The owner of the other dog is out of town until this weekend. I am worried that hte pups are not getting what they need. I am feeding them their puppy food. They seem to be eating okay.IF anyone might have some advice or prayers would be welcome

Poor Annabelle! What a brave girl to go after the other dog like that!!

There has been a lot of advice given on the thread about Bitsey and Bentley and how to feed the puppies when Mom is compromised.

Poor little puppies. Maybe the vet will be right and she will do most of the work still with you supplementing. 10 days is so young.

I hope Annabelle recovers quickly and you give that other dog's owner a piece of your mind when he/she gets back. Who was caring for the dog while they are gone?

Caesar & Cleo will keep Belle in our prayers. I have no clue about the babies other than getting the vet to suggest some milk sub.
But again we will keep her and babies in our prayers.

I have kept up with the other thread. definitly some great advice. THe ex husband is supposed to be watching them . But after talking to some neighbors the dog has tried to bite others. Thanks for your post

what are you going to do about the dog and the owner????

i was just going to ask the same question! i could just imagine how scared you were seeing your poor little baby being attacked! i'd be so scared! then i'd be really mad :mad: that people don't know how to contain thier pets! now you poor baby is hurt wich could have been prevented. i hope she gets better coco sends his love.....

The dog is still running around the neighborhood so tomorrow i will call the shelter and let them know of the attack. I plan on making the owners pay for the vet bills as well. Annabelle is not doing well, ahe is very lethargic and she seems to be in pain. I will be taking her back to the vet in the morning. IF wemake it that long. I have 1 1/2 acres and I back up to the woods. This dog lives the equivalence of 10 houses in a regular neighborhood. It definitly could have been prevented. Evidently the lady knew there was a problem with the dog staying in its yard before she left. I really do not like irresponsible people. Not only is Belles life in danger now so are the puppies :(

Im so sorry to hear what happened to Anabelle. We will have her and the pups in our prayers. I really hope that she will be ok.

That is just awful! I am so sorry for what you are having to go through! Know you and your babies are in our thoughts and prayers.

Oh, poor Annabelle and her puppies. I hope she gets well soon. I just don't know how people let a dog run wild over and over. If they have no concern for others, you would think they would worry about their own dogs safety. If he seriously hurts someone he could be put down.

I am so sorry to hear your sad story! I will pray for Annabelle and her sweet little babies. Did the vet give you any other suggestions on how to keep her comfortable? Poor thing...I feel so bad for you and yours! I'm praying for a complete and total recovery and for the babies to be fine also!

I'm so sorry to hear Annabelle was attacked. I know firsthand how terrifying it is to watch your lil girl be attacked by anything. I sure hope she comes through this as well as those babies. I worry about what kind of emotional scars these big dogs leave on the lil ones. Frankie & I will be thinking & praying for you.

You know, I am new to Yorkies and just got my first one yesterday. What happened to Annabelle is digusting and inconsiderate on the owners' part.

We have a big open field, with lots of paved walking trails, and most people walk their big dogs on leashes, and unfortunately, some don 't.

If I walk Sadie out there, leased of course, and a big dog approached us,
I am getting a feeling that we could both be attacked while I held her.

I made my mind up not to do this, unless I am with my parents as we walk together every day.

Wishing Annabella a speedy recovery, so she can get back to her babies. Everytime I hear on the site about one of loved furbabies get hurt it breaks my heart. We do so much to protect them and then something like this happens. After you get Annabella well and back to her puppies, go after that dog owner

So sorry to hear of this incident i hope and pray that Annabella and her babies will be ok... its scary to see ur baby being attacked by a big dog, he probably has done it before and will do it again, good idea to call the shelter and inform them!

I am so sorry...it is so unfair...i hate irresponsible owners:( I will pray for Annabelle and for her puppies....please do call the shelter and do report the attack...make the owner pay for all vet fees, that is the least they can do:(

In my area the police would be called ASAP as this dog came onto your property and attacked your baby. This will help ensure the irresponsible owners pay Annabelle's vet bills and possibly make them more responsible owners. The police could notify the shelter for you in most cases.

I am so sorry...It is so hard when your puppy is in pain because you want to do whatever you can to help, but there isn't much you can....I hope everything works out okay...and that the dog who attacked her is kept in his yard from now on!!!

I am so sorry ...its sad I hope Annabelle recovers soon!

If I may add tube feeding is not for the novice, it is very tricky. You can damage the tracheal as well the formula can back up on the puppie and end up in his lungs.

When I have to bottle feed I use a syringe as well. Since they are fed about every 3 hours I rotate the feeding because bottle feeding take much more time.

Annabelle update
 

We had to go back to the vet this morning, she was swelling real bad and not dong good. We were able to locate the punture wound this time. It is right below her anus. Her anal gland was ruptured/torn and a hole was pocked into her colon. There was fecal coming out the punture. She lost her milk commpletely and I think that is killing her she loves to nurse her babies. They have placed her on an extremely potent anitbiotic. Do to the location of the wound and that it involves fecal matter entering parts of her body that it shouldn't they said that there is a 50/50 chance she wont make it. She is not allowed around the pups or our other dogs. This is all so sad for her.

I'am so sorry this has happened. I will be praying that Annabelle makes it through this as well as her puppies. This is really sad and at a time when her babies needed her.

I'am also upset because this incident should not have taken place. As soon as you get the chance I would be seeking that owner and if you havent yet notified the shelter(animal control).
This is horrible and that dog and owner need to be stopped. You could have been attacked too.

:mad: I am so sorry, I can't believe you and Belle have to go through this b/c of someone not watching their dog! I hope your baby girl and her babies are alright. If you do have to feed them, at 10 days old you could start adding a little rice cereal in the night bottle.......Primie nipples and a can of pet milk to a can of water, an egg, 2 tsb of Karo....they should take to that. I hope she will be alright and you won't have to feed them for her, but sounds like she may need to rest and relax.
