I think she is a little young for you to tell what her final coat is going to be like. Monkeys coat didnt start looking shinny until recently. I cut it very short 1 time at 4 months so i could get rid of the puppy coat... now 10 months his coat looks a lot better...

My pup is about 10 months old - and weighs about 9 or 10 pounds (my guess). His mother was 12 pounds and his father was 4 1/2 pounds....

BUT - even at 9 or 10 pounds - he is a very little dog. Weight is a tricky thing - because my neighbor has a 5 pound Yorkie that really isn't much bigger than my dog. Her dog is older - has longer legs - and is very very thin and slender. My pup - not much taller than hers - has shorter legs and is a rolly polly more-puppy-looking little guy. She says she has tried to put more weight on her little dog all his life - but it just doesn't happen.

When these two dogs are running around the yard playing - one certainly doesn't appear to weigh twice as much as the other. From across the yard, they appear to be about the same size. But when you get closer - you can see that one is very thin and slender and the other a real little "chunk" (looks like a lot of puppy fat to me).....

Hair - To date, I have kept my guy in a puppy cut - so, I have no idea what his coat would do if I let it grow. It does grow fast, and he definitely has silky, easy-to-manage hair, but it is a little wavy and fluffy. I like it short so well and he's so cute that I'm not sure I will ever let it grow long. But then - who knows!!

well, I was suprised by what I got in Tootie too.. he is 14 pounds of pure joy. Since I have him, I have decided that a "tiny" dog is not for me and I am happy with his size. I am looking for a little girl but want one that is bigger, around 7-9 pounds.. he is 10 months old and also has short hair... he has never been cut and is just now starting to get long pretty hair, give it time, I thought his would never grow either but its getting there!

[QUOTE=txshopper73]Also, with the yorkie beard, you should not even let them drink out of regular bowl? There are special ways to give a yorkie drinks. [QUOTE]
I don't mean to change the subject or anything, but can anyone elaborate on this? How are yorkies supposed to drink? Thanks so much!

I'm sorry, but I was wondering do you have a pic of Kizzy? You see when my baby Daisy hasn't been groomed and has gone unattended it can get as you say straggly...I think with all Yorkie Dogs this can happen. I am not by any means saying that you do not take care of your dog because obviously you are very concerned about her look and I am sure take very good care of her. I am just saying they have that kind of hair that can easily become straggly. So we have to work with it...I guess maybe by brushing her more and taking her to the groomers atleast once a month my prevent her from looking as you say.

Well sure, I have several pics of her. But she is about as taken care of as probably any puppy I know of. She is our baby and I wash her face and brush her every day and give her a bath a couple times a week. She is looking better now like I said. Since I went back to the old cheap hartz shampoo, her hair is shinier and I said before, her hair seems to have started growing more this past month. But here she so you can see.

The last one was taken about an hour or so after her bath and brushing. The first one is where I got a bow in her hair that I thought was pretty and to me she is pretty, but she just looks straggly and I think it has to do with her baby hair still there, but its getting better and seems to be growing faster this past month than it ever has. But her hair has never had one mat in it. the brush just glides thru her hair. She is rarely outside except on the deck but for her walks on a leash with us and outside to potty and thats also on a leash. She isnt allowed to play out anymore in the yard.

Cooper is 6 months now and we had a puppy cut a few months ago and now his hair is growing pretty fast. Maybe you might want to have him cut a bit.

I've always thought that my Tatum looks a lot like Kimberly's Gracie. We have the groomer cut her hair in a "longish" style with long layers. It almost touches the ground now but in layers. She plays outside with her Aust. Shepherd sister and they play so hard and rough sometimes that I think that has a lot to do with why her hair won't get real full and long. We can't even put a top knot in unless we are going somewhere because of how they play. The hair gets broken at the base of the top knot when they rough house. Tatum is almost 2.5 years old now. We use Pet Silk now and I'm hoping to see some improvement with her hair but I really think you're gonna have to give your baby's hair some more time. Seems like the magic age is about 1.5 years and later before you can hope for a longer coat.

thanks for all the post from everyone. yall have really made me feel better than I did about it. My sister in law has a yorkie 10 yrs old and she is beautiful. They are visiting Alaska right now and my brother had another heart attack Friday evening. They travel all the time and I was really worried about this when they left in May to go there. But he got another stint and was released Sunday from the hospital. this makes 7 for him, so he's been lucky. Reason I mention this is because my sister in law called late other night after she got home from hospital and we talked a long time. She of course ask me about Kizzy. And she told me that her dog(sassy) took around 2 years to grow her coat too. And also sassys parents were 4 and 5 lbs and Sassy is 8 lbs. So between yall and my sister in law I feel better about Kizzy now. So thanks to all you YT people for your help and opinions. Sometimes its just better to talk to people about things and get opinions from those who have been thru the growing stages with their babies.
Thanks again

She is pretty to me but not the pretty I was hoping for. I see so many on here that are to small and all that pretty long hair it makes me jealous.
not jealous because some of yall have em but jealous because Kizzy is already bigger than she was suppose to be, almost 2 times that and now I'm beginning to wonder if her hair will ever be even close to the floor. And I get mad each time I think of the breeder showing parents that I just cant believe are kizzy parents as their hair was all way to their feet and kizzy is already bigger then either of them were and she is may as well say 5 months old. Makes me feel like I was taken and thats what makes me angry. I just hate being used by anyone for anything. I like honesty even if it isnt what I want to hear, I rather hear it straight and honest.
Can anyone understand what I'm talking about or is it just me? I'm hoping yall all understand it dont make me care less for kizzy because i love her to death but it makes me mad to have anyone lie to me and I would almost bet money that breeder lied to me.
Hi Linda,
Is that Kizzy in your avator, she is adoreable, and by the way I love the name Kizzy. I recall Baby Blessing loosing so much of her puppy fur, and I brush her every day, now that she is back to eating good I am noticing her coat is growing faster and looking ever so much healthier, I think that their diet is important, when Baby Blessing was going through the battle of not eating and all her coat wasn't as pretty. Of course we still have to Dr. her dry food with a bit of Trader Joe's cottage cheese but thats ok, am just so thankful she is finally eating good. I remember it took a long time for our Cassie to change colors and her coat grew so fast, she was always so healthy and her coat was so nice we now have Baby Blessing on the food that we had Cassie on for all her years. I use a natural boar brush for brushing, I don't know if that makes a difference but I know it does on my own hair. I get them at Salley's Beauty Supply, they have a good selection. Your Kizzy is beautiful and most important can see from her picture she is a healthy one God Bless you with many many enjoyable years together. Patti and Baby Blessing says me too.

thank you. yes Kizzy is not eating as good the last few days nor drinking as much water but she is fine and playful and as full of energy as ever. I wonder if its just the hot dry weather we're having even tho she is in the A/C house most all the time. It still effects people, not sure about dogs. And she still has some teeth coming in and that might be why. But she is fine. I've heard all this talk about the cc brushes. I ordered 2 and finally got one of them today and used it and she hated it. She rather me use the one i've always used. she acted like the cc brush hurt her and she's never acted like that before. But everyone else seems to think cc brushes are great. So I guess puppies are just different. Anyway, i've never had a problem brushing her before, she always did pretty good but today when I used this one , she whimpered and cried and was jumping every where and I could tell it hurt her. It was the over 22MM. Anyway, I guess I just stick with what she is comfortable with.
