just a dumb question probably?

ya know, i've never had any animals bred or been around it, so what does whelping mean? We had horses for a long time but I was scared of them but I loved to see them and watch hubby and son ride around on them. our pasa fino was a show horse (blkand wht paint) and hubby had her bred and she had a beautiful girl same color as her so he might know what whelping is. I've never ask. Anyway I saw the baby about and hour after she was born, their is nothing like seeing one for the first time try to stand up and little wobbyly legs trying to walk. But thats as close as Ive ever been to an animal ever having a baby. So do horses do the whelping thing? If so, hubby probably knows what it is but he isnt here to ask, and I'll forget to ask when he is home. So can someone here tell me what it is?

whelping is just another term for the birthing process. There are NO dumb questions. If we don't ask, then how will we learn?

thank you very much as I was thinking maybe that was what it meant. Just never heard people talk about it that way, maybe because I never have been around it.
