Default Just for your record,

I don't know maybe I am just mumbling mood.. but something that has been bothering me.. so why don't I speak out on YT, right? This is the best place for it!!

So.. I have read some people discussing about small yorkies these days!! And somewhat..bothering me.. since I have a small pup as many of you know. And I think everyone pretty much knows what kind of person I am by now but I wanted to make the record straight for people who might not know me enough to understand.

My pup is smaller.. but I am not gonna tell you how much she weighs.. because Haruka is a very shy girl who doesn't want to talk about her weight, and I want to respect that as a good mom.

I didn't choose her because she was small. I really liked both parents. By the way they are average size, not small at all!!! They are such beautiful pairs! Anyway so don't think that my breeder bred smaller yorkies or anything like that. I want to make it clear about that!!!! My breeder has healthy breeding size yorkies.

So.. it does happen. There are some small yorkies from good size parents. It is like we all are different sizes as humans.. Anyway.. and my breeder was confident enough for me to keep Haruka. So that is what happened. I really fell in love with her not because of size.. though.

Anyway.. I have been on YT for long time and I have read so many books and learned so many things. I am still learning. But then I feel that some of you sound like you guys always expect people to know everything. I mean if I didn't find YT and stacy.. I might have bought a pup from a pet shop.. or even at backyard breeders.. Or maybe I might have chosen a smallest pup!!! And I think specially when people were asking for feedback and shared the sadness from their loss.. some of the conversations seem to be very insensitive to me. People find out a lot of things after.. and I think it is pretty normal. We just need to educate them. Don't judge them or blame them for stuff!!! Focus on sharing your knowledge!! Loss is tough already.. you can give advice.. but not like.. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh anyway..

So I have been asked and people have commented about Haruka's size.. but I don't really care about what you guys think because she is the most precious thing, and I have done a lot of homework.. and I made a decision with whatever I have learned . I hope people can understand what I was trying to say.

If people have smaller yorkies.. don't think they are irresponsible owners! Stop putting the labels, please!! And don't gossip! If you have any questions, ask away to me directly.

Thank you.

Good post! CAli is my 4th Yorkie and 5th dog that I have owned. Ranging in size from 18 lbs to 4 .5 lbs. I consider myself pretty knowledgable about dogs having lived with or owned dogs for 45 years. My last Yorkie died at 6 1/2 from complications of a collapsed trachea, bought from a reputable show breeder and Cali as you all know has had many illnesss in her short life. I bought her from someone who I felt was a good breeder and she was from normal size parents. Some times you get lucky sometimes you don't. I agree the more you know the better able you are to deal with small dogs but that being said, we are not born knowing everything and even if you do everything right you can get a sick puppy. I have learned so much from people on YT and I would hate for people to stop comimg here because of some harsh comments. We can all learn frome other experiences.

I think your thoughts can apply to many threads, not just small yorkies.

Everyone is always welcome to speak their mind and that it what makes YT great - but I have seen some posts that look like accusation or attacks and I just don't see the necessity for it. I would like for everyone who wants to be a part of this site to feel comfortable with their questions and responses.

I knew relatively little about Yorkies other than just loving their cuteness when I got Sissy. I intentionally wanted a smaller puppy and she is actually bigger (at 4 lbs) than the breeder expected. However, I like her size. I don't think not knowing much about the breed and wanting a smaller pup makes me a bad owner, however. After completely falling in love with her, she could be 10 ounces or 20 lbs. and it wouldn't matter one bit.

I have learned quite a lot from this site and continue to learn new things each day. I didn't stumble across YT till Sissy was 8 months old. It would have been so much easier the first months with her if I had all this information available then!! I know I have made mistakes, but I will make less with the information available.

Just my

GREAT POST! I think a lot of folks have been stating very similar things in several different threads.

My Peppy is 3.25 lbs. after eating and before pooping. He is as healthy as a horse, and is as outgoing as my 5 lber and my 7 lber. I don't consider him small or tiny. I never saw his parents, but from what I understand they were normal breeding sized Yorkies who just threw small offspring.

There's a thread just started about Breeding for tiny - I don't think the intention was to point any fingers toward any tiny yorkies or people that have them - it was about intentionally breeding very small yorkies...and the health risks .....most of us love all sized yorkies and it's sad when someone loses one - I seriously doubt anyone here would want someone feeling worse if they lost their pet.

Well I found some of the posts were hurtful... so I just thought I share my feelings toward some of the posts.. that is all! People are not on everyone's shoes, so I guess it is hard to really understand...

I don't know if there were other posts I didn't read, but in regards to the thread about the less than two lb dog who died suddenly....

...I actually thought that everyone WAS very sensitive about her loss, ie, people weren't jumping down her throat for the "teacup" term like they usually do, or getting on her case for deliberately shopping for a tiny. I and others did try to offer some educational comments, b/c her initial post was ASKING if anyone had heard of dogs that tiny being healthy, and seemed to suggest that she might be considering shopping for another. I'm sure the poor woman is so sad that she doesn't know WHAT she wants to do next about possibly trying to get another yorkie, and that she's still trying to make sense of her little one's death....but I thought that everyone was really sensitive to that.

I understand your point, though, because I was actually WAITING for someone to jump in with a harsher opinion. It does happen a lot.

YT is one of the main places that educated ME about the many dangers of breeding for undersized yorkies, and yes, I'm very against it. And guess what?! I own one!!! :eyeroll: When I was selecting my puppy, I was rather obsessive about weight, because I DIDN'T want a tiny. I wanted one within the standard, but actually preferred the higher end of that scale. I chose a pup from my breeder's largest mother.

And as one of LIFE'S HUGE IRONIES, with all the people out there willing to give thousands and thousands of dollars for "teacups"---the night before I picked up my puppy, I, who specifically didn't WANT one, was GIVEN a "tiny", by people who were unable to care for her any longer.

I had to think about whether I should even take on that responsibility, and potential heartbreak, but she had been very healthy so far, in spite of growing up in less than ideal circumstances. At 10 months she has yet to hit 2.5 lbs, in spite of my efforts to put more weight on her. But she wasn't deliberately bred for that size, and her siblings are much larger, so I have hope that her good health will continue to hold out.

I understand you feeling like you wanted to "set the record straight" about your own tiny one, as I've found myself wanting to mention our story too, and I'm sure I will many more times.

Enjoy Haruka!!!

I know, I wish everyone would just chill out on the "small size" thing. So what. Some people like smaller dogs just like some people like rotwiellers. (sp)
I wonder if they had a Rotwiellertalk.com if people would critisize you if your dog was really big? Humm... I think if anyones comments could be hurtful, you should keep them to yourself. JMO! =)

Michiko, we all know you didn't choose her for her size. And we know Sylvan doesn't breed micro-minies! But, I know what you're talking about. People jumped all over me because I joked about putting Baby up for sale when I was mad at her. But, whacha gonna do?

I know my breeder doesn't breed small yorkies because she charges the same for all of them. I just happened to get a small one. I am hoping for her to get to 5 lbs but I don't think she is going to.

It's too bad that small yorkies are not good for show. Because of the purpose of shows, it makes sense that we should have good size yorkies for the shows.. But look at Haruka!! She is a cutest dog I have ever seen We need some cutest dog contests or something for amatuer like me But I get to show off to people at work.. at pet shops.. I guess it is good to start
