| Bad breeder or unique dog? Okay, so I went to a breeder's house yesterday because I'm looking to add a new addition to our yorkie family. Well, she was showing me the puppies, but had to go into her room to get something. Her pet dogs got out and they were all very beautiful except 1. She had solid gold hair over her entire body, but her coat was breaking at the roots with a dark brown/black/gray color. Is this normal? She said this dog was about 8 years old. Just curious if this is typical for a coat to change with older or age or is it possible maybe she dyed the dogs hair to impress a potential buyer? She has a girl pup there I want and has references + good credentials, but this kind of worried me a bit and I thought I'd ask on here just incase any of you had any ideas. Thanks so much!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. And besides, I think the goldens are gorgeous!

| My Sully is all blonde except a gray-ish color at his roots....he's almost 2 years old and people always ask me if I dye his hair, LOL! Um, no, of course I don't. I think it's fun to have such a unique-looking cutie pie!

| Thanks for the replies! She is such a nice person that I didn't think she would do something like that, it just looked strange with the roots being so dark, yet the actual fur being blonde. It is a beautiful color though! Well I'm happy now. I'm going to call a few of her references and then see about getting my new baby girl! If I do get her, I'll be sure to post pictures

| Sounds more to me like maybe a "red leg". However, it could just be a Yorkie with a bad coat. |

| color Some Yorks are born gold and others turn golden with age...it is called "running gold"...any gold that extends beyond the blue..down the neck into the saddle, hips all over...I would not be afraid of a "pet" from a running gold bitch...if the coat is shaved off, the body color is dark..but will forever grow back gold..odd isn't it? |
