| Looking For A Carrier For A 10lb Yorkie Hi all... I'm looking around for a carrier for my little Topher. He's around 10lbs and though he's not too difficult to carry in my arms, I walk with a cane, so I only have one arm free and that one arm isn't that strong. I've been looking at all the nice carriers and they seem to be quite small...is there anything out there that's reasonably priced that Topher would be comfy in? I'd like something that isn't too heavy so he wouldn't get too warm. Even if someone had a pattern for one...I do sew and would be able to make it. Any suggestions? I take him with me everywhere so do need to get something. Thanks! |

| I don't know anything about the carriers already out there so I'll be no help there but I just wanted to say that there are some patterns out there for carriers, since you mentioned that. Simplicity has some as well as butterick Here's a link to show you what butterick has... http://www.smartcart.com/1sew/cgi/searchindex.cgi and I don't know how to actuallylink to the simplicity ones, but you can goto their website www.simplicity.com and search for the numbers...4716 and 4749 I've made, well halfway I quit making it, the 4716 carrier. It isn't too hard at all it is an open carrier, it doesn't have a top at all. There may be more out there too I don't know.

| i bought a Pet Fly's dog carrier for Zoey, but they're sort of expensive. They hold up to 16 pounds though, and they're airline approved! The website is www.petflys.com Last edited by Zoey's Momma; 06-12-2006 at 08:49 AM. |

| Look in the catalogs for the carriers that fit over your shoulders and the doggy faces forward with the feet and head sticking out. I have a disability with my back and I find that I can carry one of those very well. And, the doggy can see where we are going.... |

| I walk with a cane too, and no way could I carry Tucker, he is also around 10 pounds. Have you considered a doggie stroller? He would probably be more comfortable, and so would you! Just a thought.

| Courtney...thanks for the patterns...I've seen a couple that I might try...not sure yet what I'm going to do! I'd hate to go through all that work sewing to find that he doesn't like being in there! lol Rini...I've seen those at the petshop I shop at...the ones where the 4 legs stick out and the head...are they comfy for the dog? They seem like just the thing, as Topher wouldn't be able to escape on me! lol I was just thinking that they didn't look too comfy, though. What do you think? Teri & Lenora...I looked at the doggie strollers and thought they were so neat! My teenagers told me that they'd disown me, though, if I walked around town pushing my dog in a stroller...hehe...As perfect as I think the stroller would be, I couldn't do that to my kids....lol. Poor things. I give them a hard enough time as it is with the dog and his little outfits. Danielle...thanks for the addy. I've looked at those in a shop here and found they were a bit bulky and heavy. Thanks so much for giving me the addy, though. It was sweet of you. I remember seeing a pattern a while ago for a kind of wrap around bag with thick straps. I wish I could remember where I saw it as it would be perfect. I'll keep my eyes open and may try the kind that rini suggested. I know I have to get something. thanks everyone, so much for the help! I really do appreciate it! |

| Celltei makes 2 bags, the Pouch o Pet and the Pack o Pet that are like a front carrying backpack. They're really nice looking and they say they are designed to not put any stress on neck and shoulders. It looks like either the small or maybe the medium would fit your little one with no problem. They also guarantee satisfaction. Just go to Celltei.com

| I'm with Teri on this one, a stroller is the way to go. Your kids will get over it, trust me, mine did. It's to help you, and you will have lots of room for shopping bags too. Princess isn't big, but we love her stroller, she's always with me, I just click her in and off we go
