| Do yorkies stink? Before I got Buttercup, I did some research on yorkies for a year. My brother-in-law's girlfriend always mentioned that yorkies have a stinky smell to them (I disregarded what she said and got what I wanted about a month and a half ago) Now that I have a yorkie, she keeps telling me that he stinks and all yorkies stink and that "it's in their genes" To prove her wrong, I didn't bathe buttercup for 2 weeks and no one has ever told me he smelled or he need to be bathe but she insists that my house smells horrible and something needs to be done, that I need a new dog, a new house, etc. I've tried to ignore the little girl but I think she's taking advantage of me. |

| Hmmmm... that is the first I have heard of it. I bathe my babies once a week just because I want them to smell really good . . .sometimes my DH would say "he's starting to smell like a dog again so he needs a bath" but I don't smell anything . . .I could just be immune to the smell or in denial All I know is that no one from my friends say my dogs stink! |

| I never heard that before! My Yorkie always smells wonderful. He is 2yrs. and gets bathed every 2wks. I put nothing on him inbetween, it is not needed. He gets his teeth brushed every morning and brushed. That is it. Do you feel that your pup smells? Does he have any bad teeth? Could it be coming from his stomach? If not, I think she is jealous! |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Hmmm....I know that London and Rebel seldom have any smell to them but I swear after a few days of getting a bath, Gracie has always had an "odor" to her. I just figured it was due to her body chemisty being different. But, she's the only one that does have a smell to her.

| I think some yorkies could stink. It depends on how well a person takes care of them I think. I don't think Reagan stinks, and I'm sure if you bathe your dog it doesn't stink. A friend of mine always thought that yorkies were greasy and ugly until I got one and she realized that the yorkies she had seen before (they belonged to another friend of hers) just weren't being taken care of. She's even seen Reagan at her worse and still says she looks good compared to the others. I've had countless people in my house and none have told me that my house smells and I know for a fact that at least a couple would not have held back, my mom especially. I know what type of thing you mean though. Like people say all bloodhounds stink. They just have this smell to them. Its their ears and if the ears are kept clean the dog doesn't smell. I know because our bloodhound has been on both sides of that fence. She has smelled really bad and then we clean her ears and tada she's better. I don't think yorkies stink but I could be wrong....

| I agree with the jealousy comment. I do think they can have a dog smell but I just give Ella a bath and it goes away. Maybe I have gotten used to it though because I noticed it more when she was a puppy. Now I love the way she smells when she snuggles in. |

| Pixie doesn't stink! If I skips a few baths (like, 3 or 4) she'll start to smell a bit like a dog, but she doesn't stink bad or anything... Maybe she just doesn't like little dogs. I have a freind that HATES little dogs and always finds a way to degrade or make fun of Pixie. I totally don't understand it at all. I mean, I'm not a huge fan of her huge dogs, but I don't make fun of them for being big. Ignore her.... I'm thinkin' either she doesn't like little dogs or she's jealous 'cuz she can't have one for some reason. |

| Chloe does get a smell too her if she is not bathed once a week, but I think it may be just all depending on their body chemistry, some have more oder than others. As long as hygene is involved they will not stink, but thats like anything.

| Kizzy has that dog smell or the ground smell to her when she comes in the house if I let her stay outside and play very long. But seems to clear up after being back in the house a while. But it only seems to be on the hotter days. But I only let her play out for maybe 30 minutes early in the morning and maybe that long late evening and always in the shade. Maybe its just my smeller. lol She gets a bath at least once a week, sometimes twice a week.
