Tatooing?

I don't like microchips for that reason and I know of too many that have migrated. I also don't like the idea of this foreign body although tiny, placed under the skin.
I have tattooed puppies every since I started breeding. Under Canadian Kennel Club rules a puppy must be identified before leaving a breeder either with a tattoo or microchip and it must be in place before an individual puppy is registered as the ID is recorded on the registration paper.
There are breeders in my area that do wonderful tattoos for other breeders, they are quick, readable tattoo's and the puppy is not sedated. takes less than a minute when the person knows how to do it. It is not done the same as human tattoos.

The scanners that are used by vets. and animal rescue here are universal. I believe anytime a new company comes out with a chip, they are able to down load it to their scanner. This way they are always up to date.

Thanks for this information. I'm going to check and see if our vet has a universal reader. This is the first I've read about vets only being able to read one chip. I like the chip because there is no way you can alter it. Tattoos seem so easy to change. Look at all the movie stars who broke up with someone.
