How Much Should He Eat? Zip is 5 1/2 month now and lst weight was 2.6 pds. He nibbles when he eats. He does eat often most of the times and sometimes just 2 times that day. Is that normal? I have Benji and he eat till he full but I know he been eating enough. I worry becauses he is small and bony. Has anyone had their yorkie with hard stools? Zip the day I bought him home was like that. The vet said try oil in his food and it has helped.

| When mine were about that age the vet said to give them about a tablespoon of food 3 times a day and if they did not eat it within 10 minutes then to remove it. But I always left a bowl of dry kibble out anyways just in case. Mine both always have kind of hard poops....easier to pick up lol.

My little guy is almost 5 mths old and weighs 3.2 lbs so, he is on the small side also. He eats like a little bird and I usually have to get him going by giving him a couple of bites by hand. I mix about a teaspoon of soft dog food in with his hard dog food twice a day and leave the dry food out all day. His poops are kind of hard also, unless he has had extra treats. He still poops 2 to 3 times a day though so I know he is not constipated. Dylan has much more interest in playing and seems way to skinny to me but I'm sure hill fill in as he gets older.

I've always heard that hard stools were good bc it helps express the anal gland so you don't have to do it. Hobbs is 8 months old, and I still have to start him off eating by feeding him some by hand. I think that yorkies often get distracted and "forget" to eat. I would try sitting on the floor with him and hand feeding him a couple of bites. Don't move until he gets done eating. He might think that you're going to do something "fun," get distracted, and quit eating. At that age, the more they eat, the better.

I have to sit on the floor next to Kali while she eats. Otherwise she gets distracted and wonders off.
