| Caution: Natural Flea Treatments I did'nt want to put a pesticide on my yorkie so I purchased two "natural " flea sprays. The first was ordered on line called "Ark Naturals Neem Protect Spray" and the other was purchased at the pet store called "Sentry Natural Defense".There made with botanicals. I tried both a week apart and got the same reaction from Jack. Within a couple of minutes of a very light spray ( I was being cautious at first) and only doing the underside, Jack dropped to the floor with his chin and chest , rear in the air, trying to grind his body into the floor while making crying noises, then he would walk around fast and do the dropping, grinding and crying some more. Needless to say he was either itching or burning so we headed for a quick bath.So much for natural. Just thought I'd let you know how it worked for us. Be careful. |

| Thanks for the word of warning. I wonder if your dog was allergic to something in the ingredients

| Thanks for posting that. I've been thinking about wanting to find a more natural solution but now after reading that I'm scared. Guess I'll stick with what I have until something else comes around. |

| Great--I just ordered some of that stuff for Dolce. I've been making my own natural spray by putting citronella and eucalyptus essential oils in a bottle of Ice on Ice, and I spray that on her every day, with no bad reactions. I wonder which ingredient your dog was reacting to? I guess I'll be sticking with my home-made flea spray. I guess this is a good example of natural not always meaning safe. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | years back when I had my shih tzu the vet had told me that the brewers yeast was very good for their coat and it seemed to be a natural flea/tick preventative. I know my old cat that used to go out I used to give him this stuff as well and he never had any fleas and ticks.

| Thanks for the warning.... I don't like to use chemicals, either. I have heard that peppermint oil (just a drop in rinse water) will help ward off fleas. I asked my vet about it today while I had the puppies there getting shots and she said tht it was safe. So... we shall see... |

| Most liquids in spray bottles have alcohol in them. Bet it is the second to 4th ingredient on the list. Even some aloe preps have alcohol. I use Frontline BUT I bought several years ago, citronella type plants. The flower on the wispy plant looks like a little daisy-type thingy. When we go out, we break off some and rub it on us. I have also tried it on my babies when there are a lot of mosquitos swarming and the skeeters left them alone. And it smells citrusy... I bought the plants at a county produce market but you can usually find them sold by herbal specialists. |

| Thank you all for the other alternatives. Jack could have been sensitive to something in these products, I don't know Just thought I'd mention it so you could keep an eye on your yorkie for a reaction also. |
