Ah, how sweet. Yes, they grab your heart and don't let go! Before I got my Bailey, my bf did not understand my obsession to find a Yorkie.. until the day we found him, he held him on the way home in the car, cause he felt bad that he cried in his carrier. I never would have imagined how hard he would fall for "my" dog..but oh did he. Your post was great! Welcome.;) |
Yorkies are DOGS???? |
This is such a beautiful post!!! Your words are so beautiful.. and I think many of us can relate to that. I haven't gotten a yorkie yet, I am gonna have her next Friday. I waited for about a year for this day, and I am sure I will be on the same page as you are. My boyfriend is also excited. He is not as a dog person as I am, but I can imagine that he will be just like you. The other day, I went to farmer's market. I saw a older gentleman with a yorkie. I went to talk to him and told him that I was getting a yorkie. He said that he was retired and he just takes care of his friend's yorkie everyday like his own. I cannot forget his smile talking about his little buddy. I had really good chat with him. Dogs are really powerful animal... even they might not (well they don't) speak the language we speak, they have this magic to bring us full of joy. I |
i'm definately an animal person. and i've had a horse, a calf, a cocker spaniel, a hedgehog, cats, and many dogs. but there's just something about a yorkie. i think it's just that they are more dependent or they get more attached than most other animals. my baxxxter is JUST like a slightly dull two year old human. i honestly think i have more seperation anxiety than he does. i only leave him when i go to work. he rides in my backpack whenever i go out. my friends think i'm crazy because "he's just a dog." but really he's more like my son... |
Welcome to YT...what can i say :yorkiesar |
Something has come to my attention reading all the YT threads. Time after time Yorkies' humans mention that they have multiple furbabies. I've known or known of quite a few people before that had multiples of whatever their preferred breed was - but I really think a far higher percentage of Yorkie owners have more than one. It's clearly not a cost issue. Yorkies probably cost as much to acquire and maintain as any other breed. Size may be a factor. It's certainly easier to find space for two or three Yorkies than it would be to house multiple great danes or collies. In my opinion, though, it comes down to something in the very nature of these dear, sweet little babies. And it doesn't take long for them to latch on to your heart. When we picked up Bailey, she was with all of her littermates. Including Bailey, there were three females and one male. The male and one female had been spoken for, but the new families hadn't seen them and picked out the specific puppy they wanted - so we had first pick from the three females. By the time we left with Bailey, I was trying to figure out a way that we could afford to get the other available female. We couldn't then - but I've already told my wife that we WILL have another one in six months to a year. |
Bailey's Peeps it is like you are reading my mind!! I have already told Sissy's breeder that as soon as I can afford another, I'll be calling her!! These little girls and guys really do grab your heart like nothing else!! |

NOW! It took him some time to finally warm up, but now HE'S IN LOVE with the furkids. We have two boys, Dudley and Dinkey. I want a little girl furbaby in the near future. :-)I think we made a really bad mistake when we didn't get another yorkie till Dudley was almost 4 yrs old. I think Dudley just tolerates Dinkey. I think if you get Bailey a playmate in 6 months or so you will doing great! They will get along and enjoy each other. OH, Welcome to Yorkie Talk! It's great to have you with us. I know you will enjoy YT.........wonderful people and tons of information. :) :yorkiesar |

Anyway...to the original poster: The yorkie fever was supposed to be MINE, too, but from the moment the first little fuzzy one joined our lives, all the previously scoffing/skeptical/scorning males that I live with fell, and fell hard. My husband carries a picture of his special girlie around with him in his hunting truck, and "doesn't care WHAT the guys say". So you're not the only one to fall in love! :p |
