Looking for breeder of larger yorkies Sadly, we had our Bosco put down September 3, due to kidney failure. He was 10 years old, diabetic and a perfect size at 17 pounds. He was about the size of a Cairn, and the most alert, loveable and charming dog ever! (He was not overweight) Though not intentional when he came to us, we loved his size and spirit. We want to locate another Yorkie puppy like Bosco. Are there breeders that intentionally breed large ones? How do you locate them? Thank you! |
Extra Large Yorkies Our Luther came from parents who are between 5 and 6 lbs each. Luther, at 5 months old, is nearly 10 lbs, and the vet thinks he will be 15 lbs fully grown. He was the largest puppy of his litter, double the size of his litter mates when born. He is long legged, and long bodied, extra long tail, and has the cutest face with a long nose and mouth. His brothers and sisters are all around 4 lbs each at 5 months. If I had not seen the parents myself, I would not believe he was a pure Yorkie, but he is. Actually, his size is turning out to be perfect, and I much prefer this size to the smaller ones. We have another dog, a mix of Poodle, Schnauzer, and Bichon, who weighs in at 14.5 lbs, so the two compliment each other size and weight wise, and are the best of friends. And Luther is such a great dog, full of energy, play, up to all sorts of shenanigans. I wonder if extra large Yorkies could be the next trend. |

My two yorkies are big and they are pure yorkies as well Boomer is 12 pounds and Thumper is 14 pounds. I actually like that they are bigger because I don't have to worry about them getting injured for being too small. |
I call them teapot Yorkies. |
Milo was at least 16 pounds and we loved his size! I have a 5 pound boy now and while I love him, his size is a worry. I much prefer a big Yorkie. I would jump at the chance for another big boy. Seems they are hard to come by. |

When I originally went looking for a dog I thought I wanted a Yorkie 10 pounds or less. I am so glad I went with a bigger Yorkie, there are so many issues with a smaller dog I never thought of. I would take a bigger yorkie over a smaller one any day. |
