Administrator | We are not trying to do this to get a tax writeoff, in fact, we did not even think of the tax writeoff possibility when we started this. This is an effort of YorkieTalk trying to give something back to the breed we all love, Yorkies. We asked members for organizations that were worthy of a group effort by our community, and several people mentioned UYR, which is the organization we decided to help. We are not making any member donate at all, we simply wanted to make a concentrated group effort for the benefit of YORKIES. It is a VOLUNTARY act if you wish to donate to UYR via YT as a group. We have emailed UYR about how the tax exemption part works and if they can separate the amounts or not, but they have not as of yet responded to our question regarding the donations. If they do respond, we will be sure to update this thread, as we do not know how they handle that or what kind of tax deduction receipt or slip they have. It's rather sad that people are making this out to be some kind of deal where YT benefits from this. This is NOT the case. Any member can donate directly to UYR if they wish to. ALL donations (minus any Paypal fees) will be sent to UYR at the end of the month, or the first week of July. We are not TAKING ANY MONEY from any money that is donated towards this effort. Also, every single amount that is donated is posted in the second post of this thread. It's incomprehensible for us to think that anyone would believe we're doing this just to gain a few hundred dollars of tax credit or to defraud anyone. The Paypal fees we simply can't avoid, thus there is a net amount listed after Paypal fees. We will take a picture of the cashier's check going to UYR. As an incentive, YorkieTalk is matching contributions up to $250.00, which has already been met. We didn't even have any idea of any potential tax benefits of this effort, but we are happy that many members have already contributed. But we would like to see more people donate if they are willing, as every dollar will go to help Yorkies. We are simply trying to do a GOOD THING here as a Yorkie community. Administrator | We have gotten official word regarding tax writeoff receipts for those that have contributed towards the UYR Fundraising through YorkieTalk. The treasurer at UYR will gladly give a tax deductible receipt to all those that have contributed that would like one. We at YorkieTalk will not be taking tax deduction credit for any donations that we did not make. Also, UYR would be happy to recognize each individual that has given money to UYR through our fundraising here, so we will PM every member that has contributed and ask if they want their full name (or first name and last initial) included on the UYR recognition page as well as if they want a tax deduction receipt of their donation. The UYR Treasurer also wrote that "Normally, the IRS trusts individuals to accurately report donations under $250, so your members are covered, either way." Thus, this particular issue is now settled. If you have any more questions regarding this, feel free to PM us about it. |

Administrator | We went and got a cashier's check today in the amount of $720.00 for United Yorkie Rescue. We'll be sending off the donation this week and we will be taking pictures of the check shortly. Thanks to everyone who pitched in for this great effort! A special thanks goes to Tiger's Mom, who donated quite a bit through her store, GoFetch! THANK YOU! |
