| Here Come The Clippers.... Anyone have any suggestions for clipping toenails. I have played with Tobi's feet ever since I got him as a pup to get him used to me touching his feet. It never fails he could be so relaxed and sleepy but the minute the clippers get close to his toe nails and he starts fighting. I am afraid to hold onto his feet tight enough to clip his toenails for fear he will injure his legs or knees. Anyone got any tricks? |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | A valium for you and a trip to the vet for 5 bucks should do the trick I wrap my girls in a towel like little mummies and do one foot at a time - if all goes well - they let me. IF not - I just got my butt kicked by 2 very small dogs |

| 5 lbs of persistant resistance and no toe nails clipped! Mitzi got tricked into loving toe nail clipping by being bribed with butterball turkey. One nail at a time. (it took only 2years ) |

| My first yorkie - Chloe - would fight and fight me...I'd mummy wrap her but she'd be sooooo pissed. I could usually do two paws a night. I miss her so much...lost her in January to a car...I was so stupid and careless and left the door open. My baby didn't stand a chance. I'd give anything to fight her right now. Still I'm working on getting a new addition but I'll always miss my baby girl. |

| This is what I do with all of my dogs when I introduce the nail clippers and electric clipper... I let them see it and sniff, I won't use at this point, each time I bring a nail clipper or electric clipper out I give them a treat and let them know they are good for just not being scared of it. After a week of that, I will put object close to the body where they have direct contact with it and once again reward and encourage them and do this for another week. Finally I will start to clip a nail, a tiny bit at first and reassure them and reward them and then move on to where I can clip their nails with no problems. It never fails, all them are trained and the vets and groomers love the fact that they are so easy to work with. It takes time, but it works without getting your dog or you upset. Nail clippers can be a scary thing for a dog, you just have to build up their confidence and reward them for it. Never hold a dog down, it will just tramuatize them and will make things alot harder.

Did you ever cut the quick, when this happens to them it will take a very long time for a dog to get used to their nails being cut again. Wish you the best of luck!!
