is this a purebred yorkie? 1 Attachment(s) my friend is looking into getting a yorkie and is interested in an adult. she found one from a local breeder here in houston, tx and says it doesn't look anything like my yorkie and needs other's opinions. |
I don't know why, but that pic looks familiar. What's the website? |
Hard to tell... I think that perhaps if a Yorkie were cut this short - it might be! It really is a drastic haircut for a little Yorkie -- But, if mine had most of its hair cut off - it might look like that. Can't wait for other opinions...... Carol Jean |
It looks like a yorkie mix to me. |

i don't know if they actually have their own website or not but i'm kind of skeptic about this one |

What HUGE ears :aimeeyork |
That is quite a high price for a 4 year old female that has been used for breeding in the past and you don't know the history of it at all. It would be a soft coat and I am suspicious as to why it was cut down this short. My first suspicion was that it originally might have come from some puppy mill as they get pretty dirty and matted and are just breeding machines. Of course, I don't know that for sure, you dont' know that for sure but I would wonder. CKC I assume is the Continental Kennel Club which will register anything including crossbreds. It is not a registery for only purebreds like the AKC is. |
1 Attachment(s) i thought yorkies have different ear sizes. :D now i'm starting to wonder about my buttercup because in my opinion, my yorkie has huge ears. or maybe he needs time to grow into it.. |

Usually you have hair on the ears and fringe of the ears. In grooming you only want to shave the top 3rd of the ear. The hair on the ear will hide some of the ear size. But if they have big ears you aren't going to hide that the ears are big even with the hair on them. |
That does not look like a Yorkie to me. Maybe a little Yorkie somewhere down the line. |
I think it could be a Yorkie...I have seen pics of purebred Yorkies that were shaved down, and that's just what they look like! |
This was one of those changing google ads that you click on at the top. I'm thinking that the ad linked directly to her website, but I don't remember what it was. She looks timid in the picture and is probably going to do best in a one or two person quiet home. My thoughts are why did the breeder buy her and then decide she didn't want her. Maybe the vet check brought something up. I think she could be full Yorkie, and would probably be a lot prettier with her hair grown out. I definitely think a better price should be negotiated. |

even if he's not the perfect image of a yorkie, he probably still just as lovable. but honestly he does look like a yorkie. |
3 Attachment(s) I don't know if it is pure or not..but here is pics of mine before and after shaved down. |
I thought it might be a Yorkie - and after looking at it again - I really do think it's a purebred Yorkie --- with a very short haircut. And actually, when this little girl's hair grows out - I think she'll good! Big ears!!! -- start looking at pictures on YT -- There are a lot of Yorkies with big ears... Carol Jean |
Don't know why you would think that ishe is not purebred, it looks completely yorkie just shaved down. When I worked at a groomer's the yorkies were shaved down for the summer and they all looked exactly like this. She will be very beautiful once her hair grows out, although she looks like a cotton yorkie, so her hair will harder to take care of, but nonetheless she is already adorable and she will be gorgeous once her hair grows out.:) |
I think it could be, my Zack looks very similar and he's AKC, I've never shaved him his hair just hasnt grown much for some reason, but he's only 2 months old, so I think when he's 4 if I shaved him he'd look like that picture. |
She looks all yorkie to me, we see a lot of them here, shaved down very short :) |
:) She could be pure yorkie but if she isn't I'll wager that the other half is chihuahua. Looks just like a little apple domed head to me. |
I think she's Purebred When I first looked at this post yesterday...I thought not. But in looking at it again today I have had a change of mind and am in agreement that this little girl is purebred. Her hair color pattern is great and I think as her coat grows and with love and attention she'll be a cutie!:aimeeyork Hugs, |

Yorkshire Terrier- Lady is 4 Yrs Old, weighs 5.6 lbs. I purchased her a month ago, she had a very short puppy cut when I bought her. Her hair is growing out very nicely, her coat is soft and thick. She is not registered(Can be CKC registered), has been vet checked, current rabies, current booster and wormings. She is not fixed, has had puppies before.Very calm natured, housetrained, loves to be held and go outside. Call or email for more info about her. She is $875 shipping included, if you pick her up she is $650. I feel bad for the baby, but it does seem like a lot of money for a 4 y/o THAT she just got a month ago? I want to know why she's getting rid of a 4 y/o that she just got? |
IMO, if you want a yorkie that is as close to the breed standard (AKC) as possible, do not buy from one of these adds. Do your research and study pedigrees of potential breeders, that way you can get a honest to goodness yorkie. People take their chances buying of the internet. But, that is just me. |
She looks like a Yorkie to me. Georgie has big ears too. I agree 100% with Annabelles_Mom buying a Yorkie from a site like this isn't what your friend should do if she wants to be guaranteed a purebred AKC registerable Yorkie. Me personally I think she is adorable and would be happy to give her a happy home (possibly negotiating a lower price), but I am not as concerned as she may be. BTW buttercup is definitely a Yorkie and an adorable one too:D |
Now that I took a second look, I could see how he could be Yorkie, but I think he looks part Chi or Toy Fox Terrier due to the pointy nose. |
Thats what I thought when I first saw him that he looks part chi. The facial markings dont look like a yorkie either. |
It kind of looks like a Yorkie/chihuahua? |
My non-expert opinion is that she is all yorkie. I get Nikko shaved down for the summer and sometimes my groomer gets a little "clipper-happy" and Nikko looks just like this. Except his ears are floppy. She is a cute girl and I feel sorry for her, but as others have mentioned, the concern is not so much whether she's a purebreed or not, but rather, why does the owner want to get rid of her so soon after just getting her? I would be wary of this ad. |
I think she looks like a yorkie. She's just shaved down. My Gus had,,,, well still has big ears. He's grown into them now but they are still a tad on the big side. |
Looks like a purebred to me. When shaved down my Buddy looks like that. What seems to be missing is the long hair that should be left around the mouth, I think that would make a big difference. Seems like alot of money for the age of the dog and I would certainly be afraid to purchase on the web. However, I do not know what all the fuss is regarding where a dog is registered, unless you want to breed. Mine is registered with the EKC and he would be no different if he were registered with the AKC. |
