I have all sizes, I breed dogs that produce tinies and I have 11 pounders to breed for bigger dogs for people who have small children but want the prestige of owning a Yorkie. I never lie to people about the predicted sizes and I aways tell them that there is a chance that the dog could be bigger or smaller than predicted but it is my best guess according to the lines I have and my experience with them. My first Yorkie, Pirogue, weighed 2.10 lbs when I got him at 8 weeks old. I didn't know he was huge. He seemed small to me and I was in love. He grew and grew and grew but the breeder never lied to me, I just didn't know the right questions to ask. He is a throwback, he is bigger than his parents who were both about 8 lbs. I bought a female to breed him to, she was older than him by 6 months. By the time he was big enough to breed, he was too big for her. By that time I had already bought a 2nd female and he was much to big for her. I went searching for another male and found one, Mr. Big, who was about 6 weeks old when I found him. I think, I don't remember off hand, that he was about 1 1/2 lbs when I brought him home at 11 weeks. It took me 2 years to find a female big enough to breed to Pirogue, they both weigh over 11 lbs on a good day. I don't breed them much because most people who come here only want tiny girls. I don't get many of those. LOL Mostly, I have VERY good luck getting boys. When I get girls, they tend to be too small for breeding. I shouldn't have that kind of "problem" anymore, the male that produced those females died. I do miss him. Sylvia | |

| The biggest yorkie I've seen with my own eyes was a 25lbs yorkie. Weren't yorkies hunters?! I don't think my 2lbs baby would have been the hunter

| LOL Neither do I but do you realize that the tails were used to pull the dogs out of the holes once they had cornered their prey? Just think, your 2 lb baby with a long tail would have been chasing mice. LOL Mine still do but those dang things are faster than my babies so they never catch them. LOL We had to bring in a cat to catch them. Sylvia |

| To Chewy's human: Sunshine is about 9 lbs. and we love him being a bit bigger than the breed standard because he doesn't seem so delicate We get asked all the time if he is a purebreed, too! BTW, we live just a bit north of you (about half an hour). Do you ever attend the meet-ups in Seattle? We are going to the one planned for next weekend so maybe we will see your there

Senior Yorkie Talker | Yes, ma'am....BIG YORKIES RULE!!!!! Jesse is up to 12 lbs. and he is not quite 1.5 years. I love the comments...."Is that a Yorkie?" I say, "Yes, have you heard of a teacup? Well, he is a teapot!" Hehehehehehe. I think there are some out there that actually think there is no such thing as a toy or a standard. I have one of each. If you think of why Yorkies were originally bred, you will understand the need for them to be larger. They didn't start off teenie tiny, but have been bred down to be that size. I love my fatty boy and girl.....long live BIG YORKIES!!!!!! Poochie smoochies from Lisa, Lilly and Jesse... |
