Are you a registry snob? I'm not trying to start a big fight, just asking a question:D I think I may be a snob myself. I have two Yorkies (though I don't know if my little guy is going to survive around here) my female is AKC and my male is CKC. I also have three other dogs, two are AKC and one CKC and I'm leaving Sunday to pick up an AKC female Mastiff... I have such a problem with those darn CKC papers! I don't know why!! My two Yorkies even came from the same breeder, both are beautiful...and yet knowing Simon is CKC registered is driving me nuts. I know it doesn't make sense at all. I know papers mean nothing unless you plan to breed or show and bad breeders are out there no matter what registy they happen to use. OK now after reading this before posting, I know I am a snob and it's wrong. Please, don't take all this the wrong way LOL I don't make a difference in the way I treat any of my dogs (ok I do admit that Jersey (Yorkie) and Tank (Mastiff) are my favorites) but everyone gets the same amount of attention and love. |
I only want AKC registered yorkies so I quess that makes me a registry snob. |
I'm happy to know I'm not the only one:D |
I wouldn't own a yorkie that WASN'T AKC. Sorry to any CKC breeders (or any other registry breeders) out there. |
Ok, I'll be the first one to amicably disagree. ;) I really don't care one way or another. Everyone has the right to their opinions, but mine is that I think people put way too much stock in registries when we all know that they guarentee nothing. To me, its like fancy name brand clothes. The name alone makes the item costly but does not necessarily guarentee the quality of the item. |
I'm with AKC but it wouldn't matter to me IF my girls weren't registered now - it was important when I looked.... but now that I have them and love them - it just doesn't matter - I don't plan to breed so I'm just happy they're both healthy and happy. |
I really don't care. Both of mine are CKC but their just pets so it doesn't matter. Unless your wanting to show, then it really doesn't matter as long as you check out the breeder. Crystal |
I really don't like AKC at all. I don't find them easy to get along with and everyone there is snobs. I do have Akc papers on some of my dogs and I have ACA papers on some of my dogs (which I don't like them either) and I have UKC papers on one of my dogs and I am working at dual registring them with APRI I like them the best. They are very helpful and easy to get along with. And they have shows too! JMO but I feel that the quality of the dog is more important than the papers that go with it. :aimeeyork |
I've never heard of some of those...I know about AKC, CKC and UKC. |
AKC snob present and accounted for! I personally prefer that my furbabies are AKC. But, again it is a personal preference. ALL my canine babies from childhood to present have been AKC registered. With SO many registries popping up  WHO can keep up!?! :scratchhe Just makes things easier for me. :wavey: |

I totally agree as long as they are healthy and come from a good breeder that's all that matters to me. I haven't sent the papers in to register Georgie, he is registered #1 in my heart that's all that matters to me:D |
Ok, let me just say I'm probably the worst. I have two-one I never bothered to get the papers for and another that is a rescue (had papers) and I didn't get them. Papers, pedigrees mean nothing to me, I'd love them anyway. |
All of mine are AKC,but I have had CKC and it never really bothered me.But now since I am breeding and all of mine are AKC then thats what I usually look for when I get a new one. Faith |
All of our dogs since we were married 45 years ago have been AKC and that has been many dogs and many different breeds. That doesn't necessarily guarantee that they are a good bred dog. Both of mine now, Yorkie and Westie are AKC and Yorkie is register with 2 others. I can't remember which ones. APRI I believe. It really doesn't matter because they are just pets and I had them spayed and neutered so I probably won't send the papers in. Unless you are going to breed them and if they are just a pet, I don't think it matters. Yes, when I am looking for a particular breed of dog regardless of what kind, I want it to be bred well and have all the characteristics of that particular type of dog. AKC registry does not guarantee that. Some of the pictures of Yorkies I have seen proves that. They are AKC registered but some of their owners wonder if they are even pure bred. I love both of mine dearly and I think they are both so beautiful so it doesn't matter. |
I have both AKC and ACA. I find most who are looking for a pet do not care what registery it is. I'm more concerned with the health (first) and the least amount of faults in the way the dog looks (second)....since I do not show. So, NO..I am not a registery snob..;) |
