$1800 yorkie at pet shop with APR??????? - Page 2 - YorkieTalk.com Forums

We bought our first Yorkie, Bandit from a pet store. This was before we were educated about puppy mills. He was $2300! We got him ON SALE for $1800. After he died and I started talking to breeders about a new puppy, the really good breeders in our area all wanted $1500 to $1800 for their dogs, also. That is the going rate in NJ.

OMG!

$2300? That is crazy. I hate pet stores. Megan, thank goodness you found out. I picture people in my mind right at this moment casually walking into a pet store with their charge card in their wallet, never knowing what is about to happen as soon as they see those sad eyes and cute puppies DYING to get out of there. I know that every time someone buys one they are saving them from a life of pain, but at the same time I go out of my way to educate people on why they are there in the first place. It's like a no win situation. And a SAD one. They're has to be more ways we can shut these places down

Edited to say: They're are toooo many good breeders out there. We don't need pet stores that sell puppies. You hear that puppy-millers?

I just went to this site....Are these people insane!!!...OK for one thing do I hear PUPPYMILL!!! and for the ridiculous prices they are asking for these little cuties they'd better poop gold!...and diamonds would be nice too lol

Same here, Megan. Baby came from a petstore and I actually paid $2300!

Megan, from what store did you get Bandit? How old was he when he passed? And from what did he die? Sorry to bring this all up, but I'm curious since Baby came from one.

I could see why people would get dooped into buying from him. He has some cute babies. Although his "t-cups" are WAY expensive, he does have what he calls "toy and standard" pups for a very reasonable price. Even "cheap" (some for $450 and $650). He also has a huge variety, and people like variety (puppy and price wise). And people who don't know better (like I didn't before I got Baby) will see that he claims to be the "most popular yorkie site" and figure that's where they should get their furbaby.

Yorkiemom1970 suggested that some breeders over charge because of their egos. I would have to wonder if the same isn't true about the buyer. It's their ego that makes them pay 10 times more for a dog than what it is worth.

to Jeff Dane and pet store who sell dogs.
Most of his dogs are coming from the Hunte's corp here in Missouri,
Which are coming from puppymills.
I like to stick Mr. Hunte and the puppymiller in a cage for a year or two just to let them get a taste of what they put these poor dogs through..

Sorry.. I needed to vent too.

Perhaps it's because of the here and now. They can see it and hold it and they fall in love with it. They can walk out of there today with it and not have to make an appointment to see one or wait for one to get old enough. Instant gratification.

oh we got Bandit from a store called....American Breeders Inc. or something like that. They've changed their name like 6 times...every time they get something filed against them.

He was 14 weeks when he passed, we had had him for a month. we actually had to have him put to sleep, because he was having a seziure they couldn't bring him out of. He had had a seziure one day..and then like 3 days later around 10 at night he had a really bad one and screamed whenever someone tried to touch him. so my dad took him to the vet and the vet and him decided it would be best if they just put him out of his suffering. he also had liver shunt..but he was too small for the surgery.

I've never seen a dog worth 2000 dollars. maybe if the dog is already house broken and trained to, come, sit, etc. . I would love to have one around 3 lbs but not for that kind of money.

I'm Sorry Megan..that had to be so heartbreaking.
And the sad part is this breeder is more then likely still breeding the same dogs and passing on more heartache.

Yeah $1,800 is cheap for a pet store. I've seen them going for $2,500.

Eek. All I can say is stupidity on the Jeff Dane thing, too. How stupid do you have to be to pay that much for a dog? PRETTY DAMN STUPID!!!! Makes me soooooo mad!!!

When I looked at Yorkies before I got Stewie, I didnt have anything to compare them to as I had never really seen a Yorkie in person, so I went to Petland just to look @ the Yorkies to see how they looked compared to the ones I had seen @ breeders homes. They were cute babies, but Jesus, give me a break. One was 1700. I don't know how people could just walk in and get a dog without even thinking about where they came from. I love to go into Pet stores to ask the staff where the dogs are from. They always squirm and then say "ohhh from a local breeder!!!" My butt. I can't wait until this country starts caring about animals and shuts those idiot puppy millers down for good!

But like mama said, there's a sucker born every minute so nothing will probably ever happen. People will ALWAYS feel sorry for puppies in cages and ALWAYS think they are rescuing them.

We can dream, cant we?!

Also, I don't support any pet supplies store that sells animals. When you buy ANYTHING there, you are allowing them to buy more puppies from the millers and have them shipped for hours on semis to their store. Sickening.
