WhispersMom After reading that article yesterday and posting it, I made a conscious decision to change some of my behavior. From the day I got Beau, when I would arrive home from work, I would open his kennel, FIRST THING< get down on the floor with him, talk baby talk, kissy, hugs, love and this goes on for about 15 minutes. And when I leave in the morning, I would always carry him around the last few minutes talking baby to him, kissy, put him in the kennel, get down on my knees kissing through the bars, petting, baby talk. Never realizing that I'm making it worse for him.
Last night I had to go to my car for something, I was out there 3 - 4 minutes tops, come back in the house, he is jumping up and down and wagging his tail, same thing he does in the evenings when I get home (though last night was a calmer display). So they do miss us, no matter how long we've been gone, 5 minutes, 5 hours.
This morning when leaving, I put his toys with him, his food/water, blanket (as always), and I put him in his kennel and said Bye Beau, Mommy is Going to Work and I walked out the door.
It was hard though cause he's sitting there looking at me with his "stuffed ducky" in his mouth, like can't you stay and play. |
