I know, but that takes LONGER! lol I like fighting fire w/ fire in cases like this. If a manager (one step in this chain of command you mention) is going to behave this way, what's to say their co-worker won't do the same? I can tell you right now that if she deals w/ that store directly, NOTHING will get done. I guarantee it. I think that at the very least she should go see if it's posted on the doors that dogs aren't allowed. If it's NOT posted, cause a stink. If it is posted, then it's on you for not looking and leave it be, or call and complain to a formal line about the mistreatment, despite your mistake. That's just me! |
I am with you on this one! Quote:

Some day you'll learn..... Every time you take your "dog" into a public place, there is a chance you may be asked to leave. Most public buildings do not allow animals. However, like driving under the influence --- you can get away with it over and over again - simply because there isn't a person around who is going to enforce that rule. Until - eventually - when you do get caught. I know that often even employees will make a big fuss over your dog and tell you how cute it is. These employees either don't know about the store policy (which is ridiculous), or they don't care to enforce it. I agree that the person who marched you to the door was a little too much. It could have been handle so much better. And, I wouldn't be happy being treated the way he treated you either. Maybe you got a bad guy on a bad day -- who knows!! He deserves to have a complaint filed against him. I sure the store wouldn't be happy with the way he treated you. Comparing children with dogs is not a logical analogy at all. People are customers - people with children are customers - people are allowed in stores -- dogs are not allowed. And the size of dogs can't be a consideration either. Either dogs are allowed or they're not. I knew when you said "Humiliated at Target" -- what your story was going to be. But, again, I do agree that the person who asked you to leave didn't handle the situation very well at all. I think the bottom line is that "a rule is a rule," and if you choose not to follow it, you're putting yourself in a position where you may be asked to leave. Sorry about your experience! Just because you had a dog and you might or did break the rules it did not give him the right to grab you by the arm... Assault or bodily harm.... verbal harassment... etc... the list goes on.... maybe nothing might happen, but your voice was heard & he might get repremanded or possibly think twice before allowing it to happen again.. IN FACT.. you might even be the one who makes the change that stupid policy on NO PETS.... who knows.. worth a try, don't ya think! |
Wow Val...We would have Posted Bail for ya girl. The Security Guard sounded like he was on a slight power trip. I'm sorry you were treated so badly but I think these days - he may have been just covering himself - there are some real kooks out there that get violent for no reason - and maybe....just maybe... he wasn't taking any chances ? I know it was awful and I really feel bad hearing how he treated you but I have a feeling it's hopeless to try to do anything about it but make a call and let them know how he made you feel. You WERE cooperating - that counts for alot. How could they do that to Our Sully ? I know if I were a Security Guard I'd be sneakin him treats ! |

I was not aware that Target did not allow pets, but I was not surprised when I was asked to leave. In fact, I immediately shrugged it off, put on my shoes and politely headed out. My whole post was complaining about HOW I WAS TREATED by the manager, not at all that I got asked to leave. That was already taken into consideration when I left my house with Sully to begin with. I am not humiliated by being asked to leave. I understand that "no dogs" means no dogs big or small, I don't need to "learn" this lesson. All I'm saying is that the way I was treated was rude and uncalled for. ----- To everyone else - thanks so much for your advice and encouragement! I will definitely be filing a complaint and you bet I'll be keeping you posted! Even if nothing happens, you guys are right, his behavior needs to be reported. |
 that JERK....he probably kicks dogs |
Granted he should have never touched you BUT... We kinda open ourselves up to this kind of treatment when we keep pushing it. Any store that has food does not allow dogs of any kind unless they are service dogs. I would love to take Diesel everywhere with me. I don't think it is really fair to others to take them places were dogs aren't allowed. Some people are allergic to dogs. Some are even allergic to Yorkies. I don't think you would have a case to be honest. You might complain and say I didn't know.. but unless you were physically hurt and have proof I don't see them doing anything. I mean lets be real here.. If we thought it was really ok to take our babies in certain places we wouldn't be "sneaking" them in.;) Sorry you were treated so badly. Michelle |
you were mistreated. complain about the jerk. ruin his day too. he shouldn't have touched you or invaded your personal space. he intimidated you. report him. |

You can't lay a finger on a customer! You can't brush a shoulder against them! rub your knee on them... NOTHING!!! You can't touch them!!! its one of two things!!! Assault or sexual assault! That Manager was way out of line!!! And whats with the Terminator attitude? Yikes!!! A simple "Mam, you can't have your dog in here, sorry, I'm going to have to ask you to leave" would do! Yes, call corp. and tell them that you want resolution. and let them know that if it is not handled to your satisfaction that your next step is to file criminal charges against the manager... and a lawsuit against the Target for being assaulted by one of their employees in their store outside of one of their dressing rooms. And that your lawyer will call a press conference tomorrow if this is not resolved today!:p Stress that you would really like to just resolve the matter and move on, but that you will not be ignored... that this must be addressed in a timely manor. He he he..... I saw that on TV once! :D |

that's TERRIBLE and riduculous!!! I am so sorry you had to go through that. I think the lil' target man took his job a little to seriously. I was treated very bad at Sam's Club when Sebi was only a few months. :thumbdown i would file a complaint that you understand if you don't want dogs in the store although the pup was well confined, but you did not appreciate being treated like a common criminal over a lil' dog. good luck!! :yorkietal |

The problem is not as cut and dry as “a rule is a rule” either. I’m not sure if Target knows where they stand. I have taken my dog into my local Target with no problems at all, others have been told to leave. If they have a policy in place then maybe they should follow it at all times, as not to confuse customers of what their policies are. |
While I think it is wrong for any person to put their hands on your physical being, the manager was well within his rights to ask you to leave. At the three nearest Targets to my house there are signs in clear view on their doors. I believe they say only guide dogs allowed. I called my friend (she happens to be a manager of a Target in Southern California) she told me that there is also a sign on their doors. As for filing complaint, do this at your discretion, only if you truly feel that you were violated. As for litigation, I am a firm believer that people file to many frivolous lawsuits. I am sorry this happened to you. |
I think that manager went over the line when he grabbed your arm and escorted you out. He could have just asked you to leave. I would file a complaint too. |

I am going to call the store, get this manager's name and call the corporate office and comlplain. Just like that, plain and simple, without raising my voice or screaming profanity (lol)....I'm just going to state the facts and tell them that he made me extremely uncomfortable and that his behavior was out of line, etc. I know that the way he acted WAS out of line. Not the asking me to leave part (and I'll make this clear as well) - I'm sorry for breaking the rule, I didn't know it was a rule and I'm now happy to know it and obey it - but regardless of what happened the manager's behavior was borderlined assault, he treated me like a common criminal, humiliated me in front of other customers, belittled my intelligence, didn't respect my personal space, etc. I'm not going to call the cops or file a lawsuit. I agree, there are too many frivilous lawsuits going on in this country and gosh I don't even have the time or the money to invest into such a matter. I don't think anyone was really suggesting I do so, as much as suggesting I use "that card" to get their attention, which is definitely something to consider. |
wow! What a terrible way to treat someone. No matter what the rules are. I go into target all the time, and not once have I seen a sign on the door that says (no pets) . Seems to me like they should be a little more "CLEAR" with the rules that they want to inforce. And as far as the way that it was handled, there was no excuse for that. Some people get on a power trip and loose all sence of reality! I think that you should file a complaint with the main office. There is no way that I would let him get away with that. Even if you don't get anywhere with it, you won't be out anything. And you are doing some real damage just by word of mouth! You would be amazed how it travels. because I know that I will be telling everyone about this. And I am sure other people will as well. They are loosing business from me for sure! That was uncalled for. I really hope that you decide to file a complaint. Best of luck! Im so sorry that you had to deal with that! |
GEEEEEEEEZ! How RUDE!!!!!! I'm sorry that happened to you! Some people are so anal about things! |
wow, that guy was a real jerk!! I am in total agreement with the way you have chosen to handle this. Filing a complaint with the company will make them aware that this particular person acted inappropriately and hopefully will prevent him from making someone else feel uncomfortable as well. He had no right to treat you like a criminal when you were more than willing to cooperate. Had you put up a fight, or caused a scene, then I can understand him acting that way. Kudos to you for deciding to file a complaint and please keep us posted!! |
so---Does Target have a company-wide policy regarding pets, or is it on a store-by-store basis? I would honestly like to know. Edie is a Target shopper and she has never been asked to leave, even though MANY store employees knew she was there. |
So sorry 4 U I feel u girl that guy was a total A Whole. My God what a creep. Please!!! You should have nailed him one, right where it hurts. No really, the nerve of some people. I never knew that Target was like that. I always bring Daisy into Target for household shopping, and stuff for myself and her aswell. That has never occured there with us. Poor u and ur baby Sully to have to deal with that bull crap...Sorry u had to go threw that. He must not like Dogs. He should after all he is one. Di** LEss......... A** whole......... |
i would most definitely report him. he had no business putting his hands on you or treating you in such a manner. a simple request to take the dog out would have been enough. some people do not like our pets as much as we do, or appreciate their presence as much. but there was no need for such rudeness. i am a bit surprised that he acted in such a manner. there are so many rules for businesses to follow that for him to try and grab you that way would be a huge no no. |
Go 4 It Quote:
I agree and I am sure other people have gone threw this with this jerk aswell. Goodluck!!!!!Put him in his place.... Yorkie Rights.............Hip, Hip. Hurray!!! |
After putting my shoes back on, the manager tried to grab my wrist to escort me out of the store! I jerked my hand away. (I've been 100% cooperative when he asked me to leave, why did he feel the need to use force?) Ohhhhh...Big Manly Man.!...I guess he showed YOU who was BOSS! Francie |
u GO gIRL........... Quote:

Ohhhhhhh I would handle that..let me at em..... First off.....he has a boss, right? Call and get his name.....write it down...he is probably an Asst. Then call back in the AM and talk with his boss.....then no matter what the Store mgr says, either find out who the district mgr is....or do a google search for their corporate offices...then go to him.......all the while keeping tract of who said what....I would actually write down exactly what happened before I even talked to Store mgr....so as to not forget.... The squeeky wheel thing here......if they have policy...then show you where it is....if not.....the AMgr response was "inappropriate" and state you were humiliated and...you felt it was a "hostile envionment" those are some buzz words....and that you will pass this on to anyone and everyone ..... Was he short???? the store mgr...seems like it was a "power" play....lol Let me tell you, my picture is at every restaurant and every retail store around here.......hotels too.....with a big X on it.....I have learned that the customer...is first...and I remind whoever I deal with just that fact!!!! You can do it!!!!whowhowho!!! |
Ok...so I got on a soapbox....... I still mean it though..... |
Val...I'm so sorry you were humiliated by that dirtbag. If he felt he had to see that you did indeed leave, he could have stayed quite a distance behind you and shown you some respect. I am glad you are not just letting this go. This incident needs to be reported and no reason on earth why you should have been treated as a criminal. Maddie sends kisses to you and Sully! I've had her in Target in her bag and one time she barked when we were standing in line at the checkouts. Everyone was looking around for a dog, but didn't notice Maddie in my bag. LOL |
