eww... i hate ticks! we go up north a lot and i FREAK out if i ever get one on me... yuck. i was actually in a tick racing competition when i was in middle school... lol... yeah, i was a nerd. my tick's name was "tick"le me elmo... hehe. i didn't have to touch it though. i got 3rd place out of 75! one time my older brother got one on his... ... he freaked out... lol.. but who wouldn't!?!

I worked for a vet years back and saw dogs....BIG DOGS so anemic from loss of blood from those GD bugs they were nearly dead'

I just PMed you. I'm not going to play these immature games with someone who seems to try to be rude or embarrass people without knowing the whole story or jumping the gun just to feel better about themself. I feel sorry for your dog that lost his/her life, but I'm done with you.

In the back of my mind, I wondered if the tick had been on my back/neck awhile and then dislodged that night. My friend never found a tick on her son so it must've come off somehow...hmmm...so I wondered if a tick feeds that way & if unnoticed crawls off to feed on other sources. But I didn't express that (pre-migraine confusion LOL) Anyway, the dr figured out that the info about how to determine if the tick had gorged itself or not would allay my concerns. It appears they can remove themselves to go feed elsewhere.

Anyway, my thanks to those who've shared info. It helped & I appreciate it. I hope sharing what I'm learning from my experience (I don't claim ANY expertise!!!) has been helpful to others. And my sympathies to those whose dogs were killed or sickened by tick bites

Don't be sorry that someone decided to be rude to others. I'm sorry you had to see me respond, but I don't tolerate that nor do I claim "expertise" either. People post their thoughts and opinions, but sometimes others don't like them and try to be rude. As I stated, sorry that it had to be on your thread. There IS a Lyme vaccine for dogs. When we lived in Maine, I kept Edie vaccinated for Lyme. It can cripple a dog and make life miserable. Now that we are out in Arizona, no need for a Lyme vaccine.

Cindy, tell me about Tick Fever. Is there some sort of vaccine for that???

We found a tick on Tucker's head once... and were really worried because it had a big red circle around it. But once we got it off it began to fade and by that morning he was fine . The weird thing was that it left a brown kind of birth mark on his head. And the hair where he had been bit grew out dark brown. He had like one dark streak of hair, it was crazy... But he did not get sick thank gosh. I'm so glad your baby and you are ok!
