Rottie vs. Yorkie The neighbors rottweiler attacked my yorkie yesterday. My yorkie was laying by the front door (I had the big door open and just the screen door shut) in the sun when the neighbors rottie got loose and broke my door to get at my little baby. There was a big fight. I was in the other room reading when I heard the comosion and went running in to see the rottie on top of my little one shaking her. There was blood everywhere. I was thinking that my baby was probably dead. I got right in there (getting bit by the rottie on the back of my leg) and scooped Kitty up. I pushed the rottie out the door and shut the wood door so it couldn't get back in. I checked my dog over and low and behold not one scratch on her. All the blood was from the rottie. I guess my little 7lb dog got the better of the 100+lb dog. I was so scared! |
oh my, im glad your puppy was ok... you must of been terrified... go kitty go... good puppy |
Good! But if I were you, I'd be filing a complaint with the authorities just so the information's on file. If the rottie's attacked once, it'll attack again. If it were my dog he'd attacked....there would be a report filed against ME...cause he'd be dead  Here recently, a dog jumped his fence into the yard next door, tore through a screen porch, attacked, and killed the yorkie baby who was on the porch :( |
I am glad that your little one is ok . You should report this event to the authorities . |
Wow, when I first started dating my husband he had a cat (we still have him) who was attacked by a rottie and he won too! Maybe rotties are not that good at fighting  But I think bchgrl is right, you should file a complaint...next time it could be a different outcome :( |
I did report it. I guess this isn't the first time this dog has attacked. I filed the report because I was bitten and it broke the skin and the dog did damage to my door. It bent the whole thing so it needs to be replaced. The neighbor is now filing a law suit against me cause her dog needed stiches to close some of the places Kitty ripped open. I'm not worried because her dog was on my property and atackeing my dog. |
GO KITTY! i wouldnt be worried either. you were bit, your dog wsa attacked, it broke your door, and it was on your property. it is their fault cause its their dog and their responsibility. glad your little Kitty is alright! |

Let her sue. Make sure you take pictures of EVERYTHING...the door and your leg. I'd also file a counter suit for damages and pain and suffering. If you didn't go the the doctor before, you need to now (as in TODAY) and make sure you get copies of EVERYTHING! This dog is dangerous! |
She's filing a law suit!!! WHAT!!! The nerve of the WENCH!!! Her dog came busting into your house on your property. She's lucky you didn't shoot that sucker!!! |

(and for the record - I love Rotts. I have been around them most of my life, my friend breeds them, and I have wanted one for years but due to being disabled can not care for one properly. That being said, a dog's owner should be held completely and totally responsible for the actions of their pet. In this case, it happened to be a Rott. I wholeheartedly believe the dog should be put down and the owners sued. If it were me, that is exactly what I would be doing without any hesitation.) |

OMG!!! I bet you were so scared. I am so glad that Kitty is okay. And kudos to her for hurting the big mean dog. I would not worry about the lady suing you. She is just mad that her dog got beat up by a yorkie. It probably hurt her ego. As for her suing your, she has no leg to stand on because her dog was on your property and broke into your house. In Texas I think, if a dog bites someone it is automatically quarantines the dog for 7 days and the owner is fined. My friends dog bit a kid and her dog was quarantied and she was fined. But in that case the kid was provoking the dog. :yorkietal :yorkiesar |
I did report this to the sheriff's office. We do not have animal control here. I went to the doctor too. I also took Kitty to the vet just to have her checked out. |
omg... glad she;s ok.... how horrible, I hope they get punished for this. I feel bad for the rott.. it's the owner's fault not the dog....... |
I would definitely follow up on this with your own law suit. Not only did the rott attack unprovoked, damaged your property, but caused stress and mental anquish. Isn't there a leash law where you live? Seems to be laws broken here. Document everything in writing and pictures. Stress has a lot to do with ones health, so your health was also put at risk. I'd sue for everything they are worth!!! |

Trust me if my 6yr old daughter wasn't standing right there in the doorway and I wasn't worried about Kitty I would have shot that sucker on site! I was more concerned about getting Kitty away and the rottie out so it didn't turn on my daughter. :animal-pa The law enforcement in this town sucks. They said the dog's owner has proof of rabies shots and that they don't need to quarentine this dog. I know for a fact that the dog has never had any shots. These people don't need to own animals. This rottie is unspayed and chanined in a back yard (no fence). The poor dog got pregnant by a border collie down the street and as soon as the pups were born they drowned them. :( It makes me sad that things like this happen. My other neighbors own pit bulls but are now down to 1 cause they forget (or just don't care) to water them. The one died from starvation and dehydration. They said they had it put to sleep because it had mange. (I just don't believe them.) I want so badly to move but we just bought this house last July and have yet to sell our other house. (Can't afford to buy anymore houses right now.) I am filing a law suit against my neighbor for pain and suffering and damages. I am sure I am going to win. Thanks for all of the advise. I just was so proud of my little Kitty when I found out that all of the blood was from the rottie. (I guess she got pretty close to an artery in the neck or something.) I do know the rottie got about 25 stiches to partially close a wound in her neck. ( They couldn't close it all the way. She has a drain tube in case of infection from the dog bite.) I just hope everything works out. :aimeeyork |
Why some people own animals is beyond me. Keep your gun or bat handy...next time rottie just came INTO the yard....he'd be history. I'd not only worry about my pets but my children too. |
Please file a lawsuit aginst the persons ANIMAL. Don't let them get away with this.. for yourself and your baby. Some people are just Crazy  . |
I would file a compliant with the local SPCA, also. They would love to go pay them a visit. |
What is the closest large city by you? |
I'm so glad Kitty is OK. As everyone has said make sure you have the paper work to everything. Our Mandy is a Rotti, Princess puts her in her place all the time. They really are best friends. But If Mandy has a toy, and Princess wants it, she's going to get it. Mandy is not an outside dog. She is a family member who lives in the house with the rest of us. At 100 pounds, she sure is a heavy lap furbaby. She told you she was going to sue, well beat her to it, you should file first. Doctor bills, Vet bills, your door and the stress her dog gave you. I would also tell the Judge you are worried about your children, they way the Rotti came in, it could have been them she went after. Small town or not, the law is the law, and the Judge is going to want to see shot records for her. Make sure you bring a copy of the police report, and if they didn't write in she had all her shots, make them do that. The judge is going to want proof, I sure hope they have it to back it up. If not, you just might own that town someday ;) Best of luck to you! :2hearts2: |
Here the rottie owner would be charged with allowing a dog to run at large, if the animal didn't have a city license, that's another charge....even if they have had all their shots. It's also illegal to chain a animal in a yard for longer than a 3 hour period. |
Thats so scarey, I can't imagine the fear you must have felt for your little one. I'm sure glad he is ok....after reading posts like yours I am forever wathing my Bailey when we go for walks, scooping him up when we meet bigger dogs.....he likes to lay in the sun by the door also with just the screen door open, now my glass will be down covering the screen....Hope your little one got him good tho ..lol what a fighter. |
Wow...I can't believe that the dog broke right through your door!! How scary that must have been!! I'm glad your baby was able to defend herself! Good for her!! Take pictures of everything! It seems that you're doing all the right things....going to the doctor and the vet, etc. Just document everything and that will definitely help. I can't believe that they're suing you! How outrageous is that?!? |
First of all...thank goodness your baby and you are okay! It could have so easily been a different outcome! Regarding the owner of the Rottie sueing you...is she insane? I have never heard anything so ridiculous! I'm glad that stupid dog was injured! She came onto your property and broke into your house and maybe with the outcome of her being injured, she will not try it again! I'd still be very cautious though! Your neighbor is nuts to think she could get anywhere by sueing you! |
I cant believe the nerve of people!!! I am glad your baby is ok. You need to get a bumper sticker that says: MY YORKIE KICKED YOUR ROTTIE'S BUTT!! hahaha. No, its no joking matter. If this rottie will attack doggies, I'm sure it will also attack children. Why would anyone want to own a dog like that??? |

In any event, I'm really glad you're baby's okay and she managed to fight back. It's one thing when you're out on the streets but quite another when it happens in your own home. How awful. Much hugs and sympathy and don't even worry about that law suit: she won't win |
wow, I can't believe the nerve of that lady. We almost lost Gus last year after being attacked by a German Shepherd. It happened in our own yard and animal control came out and fined them plus they had to pay all vet bills it took to save Gus. Does she actually think she has a case? And you said this was not the first time it attacked? The same dog that got a hold of Gus killed a pup on the next block over in font of the kids who where playing with it. Animal control came again and took the dog and they got another but bigger fine. Sounds to me that these people have no business owning a dog. I'll tell you one thing, if we found a dog in our home and it attacked Gus, me or any one in this house that dog would not leave this house alive. |
OMG! So scarey!!! I am so glad Kitty is o.k. Way to go whupping the big ole Rottie! Make sure you are up to date on your tetanus shot...animal bites can really get nasty and do bad things to your system. I was bitten by a cat and almost had to go to the hospital for IV antibiotics...and I immediately went to the Dr. after it happened too. There is a lot of bacteria in the mouth of an animal. Watch the bite site really closely for infection and report any changes immediately. |
i love big dogs as much as i do my yorkies; however, that dog (owners fault) probably needs to be put down or in the least put in a different living situation. The attack could have been directed to you or your daughter just as easily. i'm so glad that none of your family was injured, but you really do need to pursue the matter with whoever it takes to make your neighborhood safe. i'm sure that dog will come back the first chance he gets. |
