| ![]() My friend has a yorkie that is around 5 lbs and she keeps escaping from the fence. She digs or runs out the door whenever someone opens it. She looked at the invisible fences because that is the only thing she can think of and they are all for dogs over 8 lbs and doesnt want to try that, it is too risky. Does anyone have any ideas for her, she is soo scared that her baby might get ran over. Thanks in advance.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() She may have to put her on a leash when she lets her in the yard and oick her up before opening a door. I know I am so afraid Cali is going to get out the door because my Pom will only go out the front door at night and now cali wants to go out too but she would just take off. Maya does her thing and comes right back to me.

| ![]() she can put up a gate in front of the doors until she can teach her not to run out. i read some info on using chicken wire or somethin like it aroung the bottom of the fence in triangle form, attach to fence and ground they can not dig out that way, it may have been on here. not sure now where i read that.

| ![]() my hubby lowered our gate and had to put landscaping timbers around the bottom of our fence. He had to secure them with spikes into the ground. Parker kept getting out too. Now he cant. It worked for us |

| ![]() We have a fence around our yard, but we have holes where Reuger can escape. We live in a very private area and I really don't mind that he's loose, but he likes to run with the other dogs and he picks up ticks. I bought a couple of 10 foot dog cables, that I hooked together, and an anchor that you screw into the ground. Now he has quite a bit of room to run around and I know that he's safely in the yard.

| ![]() When my pup was little (young), I always carried him to the door with me before I opened it (and I left the door locked - even with company/family coming so that only I could open it). Now - I have my little Yorkie trained so that he'll stay back while I open the door. He's pretty good - and will stay until someone actually enters the house before he breaks and runs to greet them. Only two times, when he was younger, he bolted out with someone coming in - but, both times he turned around and followed the person right back into the house. However - he has gotten out the back door twice on me - once he ran around with my other dog for half an hour - and the second time he came in with my other dog only a minute or two later. My other dog is no help - because he never comes when I call him, but he is bigger and I don't worry if he gets out for a while. Perhaps having a screen door would help. I have a screen doors - front and back. And, of course, even after my door is open - the screen door is still closed. It must be hard if you have a family with children because then you constantly have doors opening and closing.... You may just have to have a rule...... your little dog has to be in someone's arms before anyone opens the door..... or well across the room. I have a friend who literally buried railroad ties (two deep) around the parimeter of her back yard. One is fairly well buried and the other on top of it. This has kept her little dog from digging its way out. Good luck! I know you can be creative and come up with something that will work. I always say, "Thank God - we are dealing with "little dogs." It helps some - right? Good luck! Carol Jean |
